All I need now is a pic of the sender :augie
I've got a sender but not the plug end :nenau dont ask :doh

well, i can get a pic of the sender tonight, but its pretty much the same as the one in the link, except the brown rubber washer is black, and more flush.

whats your thinking though?

can anyone shed some light onto this problem...i dont understand why i have this odd CPS on my 97, yet when i source the part, its got a different connector. have i got some sort of hybrid 96/97 crossover? its a zexel pump, with hitachi maf, plus i have an egr, does any of that help? has any one else got a similar one, can you check your plug and tell me what it looks like??

feeling more stuck now than i was with the fuel injector.

Just to amend my post, the CKP is infact a 3 wire item- only the earliest were 2 wires.

The 3rd is a screen of the cable to reduce interference, which terminates at the ecu's earth point.

Timbo, do you know where the ecu's earth point is? i had to replace a couple of mine in the engine bay, might be worth checking, perhaps its just a dodgy earth?

here's the pic of the sender...

That's the same as mine here :thumbs It's got no plug on it :nenau
However you can have it for trying if you want it. Cant remember it's resistance now but it wasn't far out I think.
PM me your add and I'll stick it in the post

pm sent, will probably need to buy some sort of wire connetors to connect the sensor to the plug on my spare?

awesome, i got the sender today, thanks to MakeitFit!

now, I am stupid, so can soemone tell me how to correctly test with a multimeter?i have one here, its a B&Q jobby, but i am not sure which setting to turn to on the ohms side, daft as that sounds, i never get any results like "1700" or whatever. I am testing the CKP, so need an indication of which setting on my dial, and how many ohms to expect..?? helps!

:bow

oops, need to add, both my ckp sensors have three wires...THREE, MakeitFits has TWO...?? what does it all mean??

Turn the big orange dial thing to just after 6 o'clock. That's for up to 200 ish ohms.
No idea about wire numbers though:augie

ok, this is what i have been doing, just not getting the readings. if i choose "200", i get a brief 125, then just a 1, which means out of range.

if i choose 2k i get "1.394"

if i choose 20k, i get similar results as above just knock off the last digit.

if i do the same as above, but with my old ckp sensor, i get higher results, so i get "1.42"...:nenau

OK so on the 2k range that means 1394 ohms :thumbs Slightly better than your 1420 ohms. However I cant see that 36 ohms difference is enough to warrant the job. I think it's meant to be at 800 ohms factory fresh
When I did mine I swaped for my mates one that was running in his truck at 1800ohms or similar :augie
I hate electricery :doh

ahhh poo. shame. not sure what to do now because i cant find one with the correct plug on the end. :(

I'll be up the scrappy in the week some time, I'll 'ave a spy:sly

ok peeps, need to ask your help again. other halfs getting fed up now with this Maverick, we have too much to do that requires this car-taking a ton of stuff to skip, moving old furniture out etc etc, and shes putting me under pressure to use it as it is!! I'm a bit nervy with it right now, i cant deal very well with the unknown randomness of the faults.

anyway, the main thing i think is the ckp sensor. MakeitFit sent me his spare ckp, minus plug, turns out this one has two wires, mine has three. can ANYONE shed any light? is it possible for someone to check theirs? mine is a 97 tdi Maverick, so really, should be identical wiring. I need more knowledge on the subject, because the main dealers seemed to stuggle also when i rang them. the reckon they have one, £188!! but they cant tell if the plugs right..

the last issue i have, is code18 - fuel quantity adjuster position sensor-malfunction. can someone please tell me what or where this is, so that I can get it fixed pronto!

please please please help!!:bow

For what use it may or may not be your more than welcome to measure the ohm's from mine as mine too is a 3 wire version but as you know I too have the CKP error code but it doesn't fault all the time.

Jim

might be worth a bash in terms of knowledge and learning etc, all I can think is that mines just got worse very rapidly. when i got the car, i didnt have any extremes, no stalling or anything, it just got worse over time.

knowing that my other half is well pissed off with my cars is making me regret getting this car. theres too much she wants to get done, and shes relying on me, and right now, i am having trouble that I cant fix quickly, or cheaply.

Drive the dam thing !!

Sorry mate, but I'm with Mr's clivvy, get out and drive the dam thing, stop reading fault codes, at best they can only point you in the direction not tell you the part that is at fault, the same go's for reading the resistance of componants, most test meters tell lies!! unless you pay a lot for them, and you know how to use them, you've tested your cps and its not open circuit so I'd say it was ok, the s/h one you have should be ok just use the 2 leads and foget the 3rd screen lead. as above get and drive the dam thing, keep Mr's clivvy HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY.. If after a few weeks it's not PERFECT you can try again!!!
