Please tell me you're not using your shock absorbers as bump stops, because thats what it sounds like. Topping out your shocks is not a good idea and thats what fitting extenders will have you doing. The standard shock length at the front is the right length to allow full suspension travel without topping or bottoming out even without bump stops.

If you want to limit the travel fit larger bump stops, coil spring spacers will not limit articulation they will just stiffen up your suspension, but ultimately the compression will still be there in the rest of the spring.

IMHO what you are doing is perhaps going to produce a better handling road car but it will be crap off road, wagging wheels all over the place - no good having great big grippy tyres if they're not on the ground.

good point... the extensions are the 2" extensions that came with my Monroe gas shocks they just screw onto the top of the damper. not fitted as they were the same length as standard shocks , so im just fitting them as they can go either way with or without
"in my case with". but i will look at the bump stops i dont have any fitted now so it will help having some im sure
as for the coils.the towing place down the road advise me the the assisters kill any movement up in that 30mm that they are fitted to. and thats what im looking for

They will but the rest of the spring will still compress - sure they'll be a bit stiffer but they will still move.

Towing place - 4x4 experts??????

thats right so the whole spring will still compress albeit stiffer except the bit thats blocked with 30mm of rubber that wont compress
so the wheel will have 30mm less travel upwards but the same down

id say the "towing place" down the road has more experience than me with setting cars/trucks up for dragging dirty great horse boxes etc this would i imagine setting up the suspension too, considering they do suspension parts/accessories.

Yes 30mm of the spring will be stopped from moving but the rest of the spring will compensate for the 30mm thats not moving. Most towing places stock spring boosters etc but it don't mean they know what they are on about:augielook at kwickfit for example would you take their word as gossple ? I sure would'nt:rolleyes:
You need to talk to & lissen to the guy's in the know who drive/modd 4x4's to get the best results:thumb2Terranosaurus in my eye's is one such person due to his history in the motor sport world.
Sorry for putting you on the spot Terranosaurus:eek::eek::doh

ok well as much as i value terras opinion on things. and yes he does know his stuff. but im building my truck for how i want it. and im learning my way.with help from you lot advise etc.
but like i say, you have to try other ways round the problem

if i wanted to clone terras truck i would have just asked him to post details of what he's got and how to do it. as nice as his truck is its not mine

to go and buy a body lift would be easy , anyone can do that. then we would have the same things.

how many times have people asked about wheel sizes and things only to get silence or oh you can only go up to 33" if you do spring lifts and body lifts.
well mine has 35" tyres on and only 2"spring lift,
it drives on the road perfectly well with good steering etc and even now will go any place the average green laner will go.
its only an inch off "back to normal" heavy off road capable
and i do mean very heavy off road. often with no lane or track.. and fast

i dont think anyone has the experience of this kind of lift unless you know anyone else who has tried it "squeezing 35"s in there. i dont think its far off to be honest just needs tweeking a bit

but i really dont see that i need a big lift to do it, and cirtainly dont want one
i dont really have any desires to copy anyone elses truck either. because i doubt many would take there trucks where mine goes, and then use as a family car
lets not forget my truck will go out on a sunday and play happily with competition landies all day, then monday the wife takes the kids to school in it

so i do value peoples oppinions and advise and will use parts of it with a mix of other ideas from other friends and my thoughts
to create something that will do what i want it to do

Anyway, what I want to know is, I've read four pages of this bloody thread - wheres the alien then?

mmmmmmmmm :kissy
