It's looking like I'll be needing a replacement rear axle for my 2003 3ltr LWB T2.
My current rear axle is the LSD model with the back plate.
Are the ratios of the diffs different for different models?
Are the back axles for LWB and SWB models interchangeable?
For example can I use an axle from a SWB 2.7 ltr in the LWB 3 ltr?
Any advice or experiences will be much appreciated.
Regards CL

I recently sold 2rear axles from the older models to replace the newer type i advised changing both front and rear to avoid any potential problems with ratios

Thanks Stinka I've read some of your threads and found them useful AND frightening!
CNFABS - thanks for the advice, don't suppose you have any rear axles in stock?

HELP!

Just spent the whole day phoning all Nissan breakers on ebay, not one has a 3ltr with a rear axle! Things are looking desperate! Anyone know a breaker with a 2002-2006 3ltr T2 for parts?

Did u read those threads mate ... :augie

basically there are 3 main ratios and yours could potentially have any

Also, do you have abs ?

As mentioned, get a front and rear axle as a pair. Easy swap to be honest.

You just need to phone breakers and get a pair of axles, I'd recommend getting a pair off a pre 2001 with the h233 rear axle as these are bomb proof, most here have these axle with a still mint rear lsd and over 150k miles

or, buy an Mot fail terrano and use those axles and break the rest

Or look on ebay for "terrano breaking" and phone them all and ask how much for both the axles

Has yours got abs will check tomorrow what axles i have but will be from the older model with more robust axle

CaptanL - I'm having real problems sending PMs, bad signal here keeps saying 'token expired' I will try again in the morning! If you PM TTT2 or Briggie for my mobil number you could try texting me! if it's possible to do that internationaly i'm not very worldly LOL

According to my 2005 Terrano specification sheet 3.0 both long and short wheelbase uses a 3.9:1 for manual gearbox and 4.083:1 for automatic gearboxes.
The 2.7 uses 4.375:1 for the manual gearbox but it has no figure for the automatic as by 2005 it was not an option.
I hope this helps, you may find you can get your diff refurbished depending on whats failed with luck it might be just bearings.

We're getting there!

Many thanks to all who have replied.
Stinka I read all your threads and thanks they were useful
Cnfabs Thanks for your reply, yes I do have ABS but see updates below.
PLANK your message came through and I've contacted them, they have the rear and are going to check if it matches mine. (P.S. you can text internationally I do it regularly to contact my family - 11p per text)
Egerton19 Thanks for the data.
Firebobby Yes tried them they only have a front axle currently, thanks anyway.
UPDATE:
I tried registering my request on some of the second hand parts websites where breakers search and have been offered both axles for between 900 and 1500 quid!!! BUT whether they are from the same donor vehicle is not clear. I'm still researching. I've just tried turning the wheels and counting the revolutions of the prop shaft this has shown that my ratio is 3.9 to 1, which is confirmed by Egerton 19's post.
UPDATE on the UPDATE!
Just off the phone to PLANK's contact, Equicar, they have the axle I need with the same ratio - 400 quid plus VAT & UK delivery (which is the current average price) - EUREKA!
Thanks for all your support and help.

Cant beleive those prices the 2 sets of axles i sold for £150 for front and back should have asked for more:doh

When I looked I had a set of front and rear offered for £200 and a rear only for £150

I hear what you say guys but the correct ratio LSD rear axle for a 3ltr is a rare item. I've done the phone tour of the length and breadth of the UK and only found one! I found heaps of cheaper wrong ratio 2.7 axles but the average price is around 400 for a 3ltr LSD back axle - if you can find one!
Rgds CL

Get a pair of the older stronger ones tbh mate :D

doesn't matter about ratio then, stronger, lsd will actually work, cheaper ...
