Ive found a decent size hole in my front inner arch, big enough to put my hand through and wave at my passenger:rolleyes:
Ive got the MOT due soon and need to know if its a failure. Ive asked around and some say it is, but some say because all the important bits of the car are bolted to the chassis ie suspension etc and not attached to the bodywork then it shouldnt be an issue.
Im gonna repair it anyway but i dont think i have time before the MOT is due.

Any info would be appreciated:thumb2

mr says it is a fail because the shocky mounts onto it. hole needs to be 12" from any structual part of the car i.e body mount or shocky mount basically none of the wheel arch! :( :(

:confused::confused::confused: The shocks are bolted from the lower arms up to the chassis and not the body of the motor. This is what is confusing people:confused:

If the hole is within 30cm of seat belt mounts, steering mounts, seat mounts, a mounting point of any part of the brake system or suspension it will fail. If it isn't then it should pass. However it's all down to the opinion of the tester on the day.
you can see the official MOT manuals here;

http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/doitonline/bl/mottestingmanualsandguides/mottestingmanualsandguides.htm

These are the up to date manuals and are the ones used by testers.

I am an MOT tester for cars and bikes.

true iv got a hole but the ex fiat tech who was at halfords said its oka and iv got rust in the engin back wheel arch :D. fixable and repairable
12 inches form any main mount. some garages are trying to rip people off way to much :mad: :mad: :mad:

Think it's within 300mm of a body to chassis mounting. I was told it was a fail so got it fixed. Don't forget it will let water in too. most importantly if you were to have an accident and it caused injury or worse how bad would you feel. It's the reason why I make sure mine gets any bits like that fixed.

Inner arch will be fabricated from scratch, wings are a bit hard to find good ones but will be second hand for sure :thumb2

Not aware of any after market panels to repair the arch. A cool member on here fixed mine for me. Basically made a nice repair panel in several pieces and then welded it all up nice n strong.

Must buy myself a welder when I've got some cash:rolleyes:

Hardest thing was being on fire watch on the inside, had to place a guard to stop any sparks flying around in the car.

What you need is a young relative to sit inside with a washing up bottle full of water on fire watch, kids love it. ( obviously not to young before anyone goes mad :augie).

You can buy a flame resistant mat from Plumbers type merchants. It stinks when it's hot but it doesnt half work well in that spot.
