Yes, I think we are understanding now. So now I am 90% convinced I am ok to hack off the duff stuff and fill it.....!! The problem is getting a welder and getting it welded cheap but as my mate points out, what's he gonna weld it to?won't be any tougher than if it's filled?

Yes, what would have been useful (and Honda do it) is a graphic of some kind that shows you exactly how that sill is constructed and where it gets its strength from. sadly we haven't got that....but in the scheme of things, I think your approach would be fine TBH - it will last a year or two at least if you do the job properly, and thats all that matters really.

But you might be surprised at whats there when you've hacked off the duff stuff - might be easier than you thought....I mean all the MoT guy is gonna see is a plate welded over (if thats the way you go) - no way of knowing what its fixed to and what its doing.

Well, we plan to do a good job, found the correct filler for the job, need a certain type to begin with, then finish with p40 then treat and paint the entire sill. As far as we can see, it'll be as strong as it was before I certainly hope so. He's done this sort of thing before on his landrovers and suzukis, and sees no difference here taking into account the chassis us solid.

me and my mate cracked on with this today, here is drivers side after hackign off the crap, as you can see, the actual sill is fine and dandy.

the passenger side isnt as bad. we ground down the brown surface rust you can see, so thats gone, treat it anyway with kurust and have cracked on fixing the outer skin. will probably finish it next Saturday due to time restrictions, but will end up re spraying the entire lower panel rear to front so it all matches nicely.

Hope your MOT goes well... Seeing your slight rust on the sills i suggest you check you rear seat belt mountings in the the wheel arch and floor under the rear seats.

yup, checked those, all ok

Thankyou!!

waxoyl will get done hopefully next week, or after MOT. Hoping MOT for Saturday, fairly sure it will fail on something mechanical but thats fine, shouldnt be any too major (touch wood/fingers crossed/rub mi rabbit paw), but the sills do look pretty good i am well pleased. Its also good to know that the actual chassis and seat belt area are good and sound!

MOT booked, Saturday 9:45 in Elland. Fingers crossed, but I wont be too surprised if it fails on something, possibly handbrake, and possible the links as before, but we will see!

wish me luck!

so......drum roll

IT PAST!!!

got an advisory on the two worn shock bushes, thats it. He says get the handbrake adjusted, but it is working fine, itll be because of the new brake shoes!!
