Can anyone help, dont know what you would call it (see photo).
Its for fixing a tap to a worktop, its screws onto the bottom of the tap and the tails for the hot and cold water pass through it.
It then tightens to the underside of the worktop with a big nut.
My problem is, the one I have is 45mm long and is too short, i need one around 50/55mm.

so you need to hollow out the worktop (as yours is too thick) to allow the nut to go on . make sure you only remove whe minimum you need and coat bare wood/ chipboard with silicone.

obviously if it granite tops you will either need a re cut or a diamond blade to trim it.
but if granite it prob cheaper to get on to the tap manufacturer for a longer one or get a part made

The worktop is hollow so dont want to weaken it.

best bet would be to take it to a plumbing store and asking do you have a longer one of this.

I think a PM to Rick might help, i know he has a lathe.
If its got a screw cutting facility he may be able to make one for me.

If he has suitable stock tube to make it from:nenau

Another way is to hollow out from the bottom of the work top and insert and glue in a block of suitable wood / plywood.
Think about hollow wood doors, they have a wood insert where the lock / handle goes.

If you do get a tube of the right length, what happens to the hollow work top as you tighten the nut, will it not deform the surface, or become loose.

Hope this gives you something to consider.

i may be being daft here but isnt a tap supposed to be conected to the sink and not the work top due to leaks and what not over time ??

Hi Rick, i'm off work at the moment and dont have access to a micrometer or thread gauges, i assume that it will be a bsp thread but dont know what diameter.
If its possible that you could make one i can post the fitting to you to take sizes from.

Too technical, tape measure across the tube, and how many peaks in 1 inch, I an reckoning this is a standard BSP prob 1 1/4 waste pipe size if you take the nut and offer it to a common basin waste I think it will screw on, if so, down to you local plumbers and get the longest basin waste thread you can and cut it down, Rick

what is the diameter? looks like niplin will look to see but i should have some,comes in one metre lengths i think i have some off cuts.
yours ( if it's right ) .

looked in workshop found the niplin its 20mm Outside Diameter(100mm long)
