Recently picked up my 54 plate Terrano 3.0 and after a few days started having the oil light issue.

The long and short of it is the garage had a look at it and supposedly fixed the issue but this is not the case.

The oil light still stays on when started and once warm it goes out when I reach 1500 rpm.

Can anyone shed any light on this in plain English terms as I'm going to attempt to fix this issue myself rather than trust the garage again.

In short what do I need to do to sort this once and for all?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Thanks for that!

My next silly question is that after the supposed garage fix the light goes out like I said about 1500rpm however when cold it just stays on all the time.

They told me that they had replaced one of the switches but would I be right in saying that they have put the wrong one on the car which now causes this problem as prior to their "fix" the light would stay on and when I restarted it would most of the time stay off.

I know there are two switches on the car and if so are there two separate part numbers for both switches or is it the same switch for both?

Apologies for the thick sounding questions but me and spanners don't usually have a great relationship!!!!

Thanks again

"Faulty oil pressure sensor common on 3ltr T2
The low is by the oil filter the High Pressure is the other side of the engine.
The Black sensor is the low pressure unit.
The Green or Yellow sensor is the high pressure unit.
Part number for sensor is 25240-2X901 it is a black sensor with a yellow band just below the connector or a complete kit for the modification can be obtained using 10007-2X90B, kit includes adaptor and thread seal."

Dave, find out what if any switch the garage changed, I got my oil switch for £6 from a local motor factors, it was easy to change, there is a down load on here for changing them.
I changed my one because the oil light was staying on, I would change yours for the correct known switch and see what happens, the garage may have fitted the wrong switch, if that's possible:nenau

Thanks very much for your help everyone :thumb

Hopefully I'm going to get this sorted this week.

Really loving the Terrano. Wished I'd gone the 4x4 route years ago.

Need to sort steelies and proper tyres next.... :naughty

Have you tried an oil & Filter change first as oil can be too thick in colder weather causing high oil pressure?

What oil do you have in it ?

You could try 10W40 Semi-Synthetic as it will take temp's of -20 to +20 without causing high or low oil pressures.

Oh dear........I have a feeling someone is going to come along soon and have something to say about the oil......(Grabs tin hat and hides)

10w40 is what I filled mine with and no problems:thumb2
