If you get the starter mate I don't mind coming to fit it for you

Thanks for the offer Banshee, Darryl also offered, appreciate both offers.
A guy who lives across the road owes me a favour, so he is going to fit it tomorrow for me. Hopefully!

Excellent news, just stay well clear of I'm as he does it....

So, I thought I'd have a go one Left Handed, (I'm Right Handed) just to see IF I could get a few bit's started before my mate turned up just to help job along a bit.
I started at 07:00 and at 11:30 the Starter Motor hit the Floor!
I had to undo the brake pipe steady point and turn it gingerly out of the way and the Motor came out sidewards.
Unfortunately, I immediately recognised it has being different to the Starter I just bought off Clivvy!!!! Bollocks!

The one that's come off the Mav has a domed end that goes inside Flywheel Housing.
The one off Clivvy is almost flat apart from the gear on the end.

So has anyone got a Starter Motor for a late 96 2.7 TDi Maverick????????

this is odd. we need some opinions, because I was pretty sure the early TD engine had the older style starter motor (domed end) and the TDI's even form 96, had the newer starter motor....

anyone?? If the number of teeth are the same, then it should fit fine.?

might be worth having the old starter motor tested before you buy another mate:thumb2

Yep, I put it in my Vice and connected it direct to the battery with jumper cables.
Old one turned twice and stopped, cables got HOT!

One from Clivvy, just whizzed around!
I think I fpound the fault.
My mate has just come back from work, he's gonna try fitting motor after he's had a cuppa!

Tis Done And working fine.
So, it was the bloody Starter all along after all!

Well I mean, I will wait untill tomorrow morning before breaking out the Flags, but I'm fairly confident.

Thanks to all who contributed there suggestions and help.
Especially the two guys who offered to come and fix it for me, much appreciated.
