i deff have a 5speed manual and all gears work fine but is it me as the terrano at motorway speed of anything faster than 60mph seams like i need 6th enginge just sounds like its reving loud the clutch is fine am i the only owner on here that thinks it should have a 6speed box:sly

My petrol was fine, about 3000 for 70mph and flat out at 110ish

mines a auto ( with overdrive ) obviously i dont exceed 70 mph .:augie.... but i can easily do 85-90 , probably more on a long run

mine will do that to i think:lol but just hearing the engine it sounds like it want 6th so it can settle in the peek torque band thats all buy the way does any1 no where max torque is my old 307 2.0hdi was around 1700 rpm.

The manual gearbox does about 3750 rpm at an indicated 90mph, so at 60mph it should be doing abt 2500 revs. If it is doing more then you aren't in top gear.

The auto by contrast does 3000 rpm at an indicated 90mph, so 2000rpm at 60mph.

thats about what my rev counter shows just sounds like it would be better at around 2000rpm or is it just me:doh:lol

Being honest, my motor does feel that it would benefit from another gear, many a time, when I first owned it Id dip the clutch and go for 5th when Im already in 5th, but now I aint done it in ages, Its probably cause youre comparing a 4x4 with a car, dont worry about it just turn the radio up or do like I do and drift into another world, :naughty :naughty :naughty

Or you could try drifting, only last week I was on a beach in baha with amanda hendricks, Id just got to the point of her taking her bikini top off for a frontal suncream rub and the damn lights changed to red and broke my train of thought :naughty :naughty :naughty :naughty

Just tell her youre warming up, or better still let her drive then you wont have the upset of the lights like I did and wont give a £hite what gears she in :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

That was so disappointing, a bit like when you are having a dream and wake up and you cant get back into the dream.

On the diesels I think maximum torque is about 2200 -2300 rpm so I wish I had a 6th gear sometimes when approaching 80, as it is noisy at 95, on a test track of course.
But to be honest at this speed on longer journeys, you will loose the time saved by the higher speed by spending more time at the filling station.:nenau:nenau
Unless you can install In-drive fuelling (Like in Flight fuelling) so you can fill up from a tanker as you go.
And I thought those were snorkels on the front of 4x4's they are really fuelling docks. :lol:lol
Now that would be a conversion, especially if you can tailgate the car in front and empty his tank.:thumb2

Since 5th will cover you from 30mph + it does seem low geared.
But as a towing vehicle, with 2 tonnes on the back you can easily exceed the motorway speed limit let alone the 60mph limit. If you mind drifts......
No traffic lights on the motorway, (well not many).

To up the gearing without great expense, fit larger diameter tyres, but this will affect the speedo so use a GPS to check before and after.

After all these are not racing cars, but nice to do 90 (on a test track) to blow the cobwebs out. Especially before the MOT.....:naughty

Best regards, Rustic

i have always maintained that they need a 6th gear or a higher geared 5th to sit at speed limits at arround 2500rpm would be the best thing but alas we got a 4x4 and have to trundle along lol

mine isnt a proper 4x4 ....... WHAT ????!!!

I know nuffin , but i would dare to suggest that an auto is better off road due to the smoother delivery of power

My company car has got 6 gears.... the amount of times Ive gone for 6th in the Terrano and almost whacked it in reverse by accident!!!!!

Oh Briggie - I have seen you drive.... nuff said!!!! :augie :augie

But since the speedo tends to under-read by arounf 10% anyway, bigger tyres will actually make you more accurate.....

But I totally agree....the automatic is dead right in terms of gearing, the manual needs a sixth gear really....

pop some 31" tyres on it that will sort out the revs. bring your speedo into line (well nearly )
possible fuel saving
