pop some 31" tyres on it that will sort out the revs. bring your speedo into line (well nearly )
possible fuel saving
what size would that before 16"rims and would i need to mod any wheel arch or lift the car thanks

my speedo UNDER READS by 5mph at 30mph .... and i have 15" wheels on ..... so i would need some mini wheels and tyres to bring it in line lol

I know nuffin , but i would dare to suggest that an auto is better off road due to the smoother delivery of power

And naf all engine braking going down hill.

Later model landies (TD5 onwards) with all the electronic gizmo's get round this problem. Drove a V* one a KIrton the oter week, great power delivery from the V8 but could't get the hang of the auto box lark, and I hate them with a vegence on the road, feel out of control without a manual box.

plenty of steep hills around here , if i need to i just drop it into second for a while ... no problem

now do that pete when you are look at a deep hill with rocks in the way the auto would slip i would have thought as its run by belts and not cogs

They run away I promise you.

Proper technique for decending seriously steep slopes offroad is, 1st in low box and feet off let the car do the work ie don't touch the brakes

In an auto the torque converter slips and it runs away from you - I've seen it happen - gets even worse if you fit bigger tyres.
