ABS Warning light problem

Please could anyone help with a solution to intermittent ABS warning light coming on? Goes out once the ignition is turned off and on, and ABS system appears to be working ok? Already been to Main Dealer Glyn Hopkin a year ago to rectify, but I have only just purchased the vehicle last month...

hi, the sencors in the front wheels are prone for the wires to break.

get under and have a look. new ones are £££££ but cah be repaired if you can solder.. do a serch on here.. should pop up

If someone has had them out. Check they have been put back right. If they are not clean and in there abs hole as they should be they will play up from time to time ABS sensors have a little rubber seal round them and when removed and replaced 80% of the time they dont get put back right. If you have a idea which one it may be Take it out clean it put a very small amount of grease on the rubber seal then put it back in hub, With the small amount of grease it will but up to where it should fit, And all being well it should be :thumbs

Not sure why but if sensors go it seems 99% of the time it's the NS. Mine had been broken and repaired by dealer but not sealed properly so water got in and made a right mess of the cables. Had to go right back to sensor to find good clean copper, then soldered new cables on.
The ABS used to kick in and do it's hissy grinding noise and light would come on. Not had a problem since. Beware if you try removing the sensor as they break really easy and then it's time to buy a new one.

Thanks for advice. Will try this, as ABS is working OK so must be some electrical connenction..

Forgot to say that the cable to the NS sensor seems to break around the area of the cable clip on the suspension arm.

Forgot to say that the cable to the NS sensor seems to break around the area of the cable clip on the suspension arm.

Thanks Jim, having a good look at it on Friday so will see what transpires...

Mine also has ABS sensors on the rear drum brakes, but take care if you remove them to have a look as they are in LSD oil, which will leak out if you don't jack the car up high enough, or drain the fluid.

You can't miss them as the have an electrical connection on them.

Not sure if this is relevant but had a similar prob on a Toyota.Drove me nuts as all sensors seemed to be fine.After weeks of muttering and testing turned out that there was a bad earth on the right rear lower stop light. Once that had been sorted - bingo, no more ABS light.Seems that the stop light is on the same circuit as the ABS system so can cause the dash light to come on when there is a bad connection.So if all else fails .......?
