Every now and again I get an abnormal brake pedal movement. I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to an ABS problem (I'm willling to listen to altenative suggestions).
The symptom is that the pedal is depressed but seems bounce under the foot from time to time.
How difficult is the repair likely to be? (When I say difficult I mean limited tools and no workshop).
What is the most likely culprit, ABS ECU, ABS Control unit, modulator, pump or something else?
Cheers.

My Mrs motor does that from time to time, no idea what it is, I know nothing about ABS and very glad my motor of similar year does not have it, but guess a sensor is starting to go down, Rick

have you tried checking for ABS fault codes ?

I have had this on a Merc it was due to corrosion on the reluctor rings. I wire brushed them and it improved it but did not go away - I lived with it due to huge cost of replacing a front drive shaft on the old 300TE 4-matics.

On my previous Santa Fe it was a split reluctor ring but ABS fault light did come on sometimes it was a cheap fix.

Other possibility is an ABS sensor on its way out ?

How would I go about doing this? :nenau:nenau

sorry for delay had to re-install windows & all apps on pc,
option 1, earth pin 4 providing you have the 14pin connector, this will cause your abs lamp to flash like the mil lamp does for ecu fault codes, just count the flashes long & short.

option 2, use a registered version of datascan on laptop & select the abs module instead of ecu.

I would'nt count on it, but there must be the same method for the 16pin ? but not having one i don't know, maybe one of the guys will be along to confirm.

Still trying to sort out this 16 pin rubbish with Ray but he seems to have dissapeared from the face of the earth :(

The bluetooth reader has arrived and shows no fault codes lighting up.
Further reading has brought up a possible reluctor ring problem. My problem is that I don't have the space to raise the front and have a root round, so it looks like I have to admit defeat and send it to the garage. Grrr!

That's what mine turned out to be.
Was a crack in the ring and depending on where the wheel stopped it would throw up the abs light.

Not too bad.
Wheel off, auto hub off, brake caliper off, wheel bearings off then the hub and brake disc slide off.
Reluctor ring is on the back of the hub.
Clean up and inspect for damage.
The crack was clearly visible on mine.
