Hi guys,

just come back from an insurance job in carlisle and on the way home on a straight when accelerating the abs and handbrake on light came up on the dash, a few times after that the brake peddal was kicking back and the car was not braking. Scary, eased on the handbrake to help and nothing happened.

I know my rear brakes havent been great recently so probably need replaced but what about the warning lights? Its an 02 2.7td, cheerd in advance

Not good pal. I had similar on the wife's car and it was the abs ring come adrift. Before I'd got home the abs had stopped working all together and normal braking had returned. Just no abs :nenau

To stop the abs kicking in when it should not which has a bad effect on braking efficiency, pull the abs fuse under the bonnet until you can get it sorted, you will then be back to full standard brakes, Rick

Okay so booked into garage tomorrow, today the abs kept kicking in randomly even more. Ive checked brake fluid and alls fine. So which of the two big abs fuses do i remove? Abs motr or abs sol?

My 98 only has one if you have two pull em both, Rick

Front rhs abs sensor. Is this an easy thing to fit myself? Or best to use the garage?

If you have the old one out then easy to fit new, if old one still in it may well take a lot of removing, even to the point of drilling it out, if you are confident on this then go for it, if not then garage job, Rick

hey rick, righto i will get it jacked up over the weekend and have a go, if it doesnt come out easily i will garage it. cheers again lads

So tried to remove the abs sensor, it snapped, then 3 hours of drilling and picking at the bits with pliers i get it out only to find the new abs sensor it 10cm shorter in wire lenght, phone nissan the want £50 for new ' brackets and if that doesnt fit then a new hub is required!! Barstards...

Extending the wire is easy, get yourself some heat shrink sleeving and so you only have one pair of joins use your old sensor wire, small sleeve over inner wires larger one over whole outer, be generous with the outer one, and solder the connections, or you can use crimps loaded with silicon grease, BT use similar for phone wires and they withstand flooded man holes without issue, Rick
