Ha ha. Happens every time T-Doug. :lol Luckily haven't left anything in it that stinks yet. Found some eggs that were well out of date. Gave the kids a cookery lesson and cracked them into a bowl, outside obviously. How we weren't sick I don't know:lol

Yargh, minging :lol

I guess we are pretty good, when we get back home, we take all the fridge contents out, and the clothes, which Suz sets straight to work getting a load in the washing machine and I bring in most of the crockery and cutlery for a run through the dishwasher. The next morning the extra clean crockery and cutlery is put back in, and we empty the caravan out properly, bringing in any condiments that have been opened, and I check the dates on any tins, dried goods etc to make sure they are long enough for the next time we are likely to go away.

We have some white rubber door wedges from the pound shop, and every time we get back home with the caravan we empty the fridge, then use a couple of the wedges to hold open the freezer door, which in turn stops the fridge door from shutting, so the fridge does not get that horrible smell they get when left closed up and turned off.

So luckily we have never found nasty things in the caravan, OCD had to be a good thing eventually.

Having said that, there was one time, the next morning after we had just got home, I opened the caravan up to a really bad smell, it was the time we managed to get away for a great 4 weeks, and when we got back home, it was quite late at night. Our ferrets have fleece bedding, hammocks and sleep sacks, and it is normally changed twice a week, so the dirty bedding is then put in a stuff sack, and put in the roof box on the car. This time we had some young rescue ferrets that had not been neutered yet, and this meant we had to change the bedding every couple of days. Being away for 4 weeks, we had so much of our own washing in stuff sacks to take into the house, I put the ferret bedding from the roof box in the caravan over night... Now, at home we have never had ferret bedding that has been around for 4 weeks, and even camping, the longest is probably 2 weeks, so nothing had prepared me for 4 week old ferret hammocks and sleep sacks that have fermented in the hot sun in a roof box.. I think it might even have given your rotten eggs a run for your money....

Bet you won't forget again though :D

I always do the same with the fridge, last time was no exception so i don't know how I missed it, it didn't make the van smell just the fridge, I only noticed because I took the shelfs and box out so I could spray with a little disinfectant, something I do from time to time.

What do you use to clean the water system Clive?

I have a bottle of Milton. I pour some into the butt and flush out though the taps and shower. I then drain everything and wipe out the on board water tank and then run another butt full of fresh water. Then I replace the filter. I do this at the beginning of each season.

Nah mate. Never bothered in our 1st van. Although it only had cold water:lol

What did you get with it. Anything?
Do you want a porch awning? Got one you can have:thumb2

Milton. Um read label on bottle, bottom line I think.

Keep away from metal.

If you got hot water. Um. Then the boiler contains stainless steel:)

If Milton is unsuitable, as it is based on bleach, which dissolves stainless steel, and other metals, then you could try white vinegar.
We use that on our Plastimo flexible poly water tank.

Oh Maaaaan. My wife suggested white vinegar. I'm saying nowt.:D

I have water butt with drop in pump, hot water is stored and heated on board, external grey water tank and a slide out cassette for poo removal, cider goes in the fridge with the lager :thumbs:D

I do my own servicing so have a bit of a system at the beginning of each season. At the same time as servicing the chassis, I check the Gas system over and test for leaks, which as you know proved very fruitful last year.

I have a PA Tester, so check the Mains electrics with that, and then check/lubricate all the catches, hinges, locks etc.

While doing all this, I also do the Water system, and waste.

Once I have finished, Suz cleans all the surfaces, cupboards, fridge, floor, etc.

For the water, same sort of thing as Blocky, we have 2 pumps and 2 external aquarolls, with a change over switch inside the caravan, so we do not have to go out and swap over the pumps when we run out of water in the middle of the night, as we always seem to do.

Our 2 pumps plug into Crystal inlets with the inline filters, but I have filters where I can replace the inners, so at the beginning of every season, I take the filter inner parts out, fill the aquarolls with water/descaler, run them through the system by filling the system and emptying the first aquaroll, then leaving the system charged over night, finally running a bit more through from the remaining aquaroll every hour or so the next day until the second aquaroll is empty.

The first carrier that is empty, I fill with hot water and Milton and let that soak over night, and once the descaler is through the system the next day, I use that one to flush the descaler out of the system, and and leave that over night.

I fill the first water container up with hot water and Milton leave it over night, and then run that through the system. Lastly I rinse both the aquarolls and then run a load of fresh clean water through the system from both aquarolls, finally fitting the new filter parts.

The same day I start doing the caravan water system, I also fill the waste hog up with caustic soda, and leave that to soak overnight, then use the captured descaler water, then the Milton water from the caravan to flush that out, so we start the year with a nice clean system.

Then if I still have any energy left, I give the caravan the first wash and polish of the season....:D
