Always bad timing!

:banghead

Laptop went black screen last night.

:lamer:

I've tried everything, startup with F8, startup with F10, startup with windows button and B, hard reset, re-seat ram, re-seat hard drive.

NOTHING!!!

:flush:

Looks terminal.

Not looking for suggestion particularly, just needed to vent my spleen!

Hope you're having a better weekend than me, looks like I'll have to have Windows 10.

That's what is really p!55ing me off.

Windows 10 isn't all that bad, at least no worse than other iterations.
I'm just waiting for mine to die, but quite happy so far as it's a 300€ Acer that I bought in 2011.

You know that old VDU screen that you had with your old tower computer, that you threw out....:doh

You could have plugged that into the video socket of the lap top, actually, some modern TV's have a hardware input for a computer... you only need a cable lol.

Also one of the keys on the top row toggles between local, remote or both displays, or all off.:augie

You can have any OS of your choice.Just a matter of installing it.

Forgot to mention that...

...plugged laptop into desk top screen.

Nothing.

Power supply is firing up, but that is it. No other life!

did you try unplugging the battery, unplug the power and press/hold the power button 10 seconds, then plug everything back in?

Does it power on at all as in any lights/charge lights?

shine a torch on the screen - can you see ANYTHING? was thinking maybe the screen inverter has gone..

Yup, that's a "hard reset", done that.

All I get is a power light, and the power supply fan fire up.

I've tried recovery discs too.

Won't boot off them.

:(:hmh

I am no expert but if the power supply light fires up and the fan is running (CPU fan ?) that should mean the power supply is working though it may have multiple outputs.

Next thought is probably hard drive failure has it been making a lot of noise recently or have you dropped / knocked the laptop ?

take the RAM out and turn on, does it beep?

Never been dropped or knocked.

Already had the ram out etc.

Spent four hours trying to rescusitate it.

It is a long shot but last year the wife's laptop would fire up but the display would only would work for a couple of seconds then it went so dull it became a blank screen. Took it to the shop where we bought it from in Ashbourne and they found the culprit was some malware that turned off the display as soon as it booted up.

i once had a laptop new and had intermittent fault,i even tried disc recovery but it would not finish.cut a long story short and 4 attempts by the guarantee repairers i finally got it back in full working order.faulty sata/ide line on motherboard.so new board fitted and walla all well.
its frustrating when someone knows what they are doing trying to emplane over phone to repairer, doing as suggested but then away it goes again. i had come to the conclusion it was mb or hd.
banshee means take all ram out and try to boot no ram in it and does it bleep,if not its not posting.if it bleeps its trying.

The most common cause of laptop death is over heating.
Common cause blocking the fan by using it on a soft surface like the bed or a cushion. etc.
blocked vent, Toshiba's are particularly prone to this, they suck in fluff and dust which eventuly blocks the vent,so the fan can't cool the heat sink and the CPU frys ,,,DEAD:doh

Avoid this by always using on a hard surface, desk, table or a tray if your in bed and regularly vac out the side vent to keep it clear :thumbs

Shouldn't use a vac, a vacuum creates a static charge which can arc across the surface of the components and damage them such as RAM or Hard Drive
