Hi And welcome.

Change the fuel filter. They are very cheap to buy and if it has been run on Veg or Bio as many have, they can clog up quickly.

Make sure you fill up the new one all the way, tighten well and then press the button down on the top of the filter head to top it up.

Good luck

Fuel filter a good idea, careful as it has been reported on here that some of the cheaper filters don't seem to seal very well.
The white smoke to me indicates the possibility of air getting into the fuel system. Find where the diesel smell is coming from, you may have a fuel line leaking. A prime candidate for leaking are the lines from front to back. There's a download on those within Quick Links (top right of the web page).

Your engine is known as the "TDI"

And finally, welcome aboard:thumb2

check fuel lines around the rear arch on the chassis (drivers side) for any leaks.

if it known as a tdi why is it my v5 says its a td my insurance says it a td and when I ask Nissan they say its a td ?. plus has it got a egr valve

the " i " stands for intercooler as all diesels are injected anyway. i thick i stand correct but im sure someone will tell me different if im wrong

Yep "Intercooler"

Nissan and Ford also did an earlier model with the same engine but not intercooled so that is known as "TD"

Yours may have an EGR, the early TDI's had them but the production only ran for a short time with EGR's. There is a download in the Quick Links section regarding blanking the EGR Valve off. This may help you identify if yours has one or not.

Dunno but your photograph clearly shows that yours is the 2.7TDI engine with that dirty great silver thing on top of the engine.

if disconnecting it makes no difference then the Maf is stuffed and needs a new one, I have a TDi and runs like bag of sh** if I disconnect it, Rick

Re the TD v TDi bit have you checked the vin numbers on the chassis it is stamped on just under the drivers door pillar cos if your docs say TD something is very wrong, makes me think you may have a "ringer" it is not feasible to install a TDi engine in a TD motor as the entire wiring loom and ecu etc would need to be replaced, Rick

can you show me a pic . because I have done a car check and given them the vin number in the engine bay and the number plate and they say it matches with documents . can you tell me where the engine number stamp is ?

Plate in engine bay can be changed, engine number is on the block at front or rear near head on the off side, but check the number on the chassis this is very difficult to alter, particularly as many do not know it is there, Rick

I have a Tdi but it just says TD on my V5 too, I got the full history with mine and to be honest I'm not bothered what they class it as....

Could be

A white smoke and a smell of diesel, could also indicate un burnt fuel.

I agree I do not give a shi* about rules and regulations, BUT if you have a prang and the powers that be start digging and your details are not A OK then insurance will be invalidated, they get out on the slightest thing today, which could leave you with a bill that you cannot ever afford, just food for thought, Rick

Mines a TDi, it states TD on the V5, I mentioned it to the insurers and he said he had all the info he needed and he knew it was inter-cooled. :nenau

I think its official title is 2.7 TD S, mines a 2001 model. :thumbs
