88 degree thermostat

i run a td with a 88 degree thermostat fitted ..... needle sits at halfway

Cheers Pete, that is good to know. I swapped an 82 for an 88 in my TDi and it made quite a difference on the guage. I just wanted to check that it was ok. Hope you are feeling better already and I wish you a speedy recovery, mate.

Mines halfway too and the heater gets proper warm too.

about 1mm under half way, but today at steady 80mph it was about 1mm above halfway.

just to add to everybodys, mine also runs at about half way with an 88, warms the veg nice in about 1 mile, with the 82 it hardly moved off the bottom.

A bit of a bump...

I'm thinking of putting and 88C thermostat in my X reg 2.7TDi Terrano.
My new commute involves 30 minutes of motorway driving. Would the new stat help with either MPG (I'm going to start running a veg/rape seed/sunflower oil mix) or help with the longevity of the engine?
The one I've spotted is HERE on eBay.

So is it worth the £22? Is there any real benefit?

seems a bit expensive i bought an 82 and 88 degree from local factors £8 each

Crazy price, go to your local motor factor with your reg number. About £6 +vat.

If you are enterprising with spanners and auto-electrics, the best mpg increase is ditching the Viscous driven fan for a pair of electric ones. Of course replace the thermostat first as if it is stuck open or lazy, a slow warm up, or fail to reach full temp at all will drink the juice.

If you are not likely to get stuck in traffic on the run and the weather stays cold for a while, no fan at all even.

88 deg thermostat

Evening all.

I have an 88 deg thermostat fitted to my 2.7tdi, gauge sits pretty much bang on 3 o'clock, right in the middle.
As for cost about £6 from your local motor factors.
Well worth fitting this time of year:thumb2
