Need some advice. Have a T2 LWB seven seater. Am happy with the T2 and don't really want to change it. Can't really afford to be going changing it either. But am expecting a new addition to the family in next few months. That will be child number 6. So when we will all be in the T2, two adults and six children, there will be eight. Problem is insurance company tells me I won't be insured to carry eight in a seven seater. I could add a lap belt to the rearmost seat easy enough and that would give me the extra seat with a restraint. But insurance company says I can't just add a seat belt myself. They can't tell me what I could do and all they can suggest is to change the car and get an 8 seater. So for the sake of an additional lap belt I have to get a new car???? Surely there is some way to avoid having to get rid of the T2 and get an 8 seater? Any advice or suggestions??? (By the way, before someone suggests it, getting rid of one or more of the kids or the wife is not an option.)

interesting, i was wondering this myself the other day, what concerned me the most was, would the 3rd row of seats, that are removable, be able to take 3 passengers?, not just because they are smaller but also the extra load after all they are not the strongest seats in the world

They would take three of my gang for another year or two easy enough as they are all still under 7.

I suspect its a bit of a no-can-do Dan (blimey is that a poem?) but how many kiddie seats and boosters are we talking about? I mean theres NOTHING you can do with the middle row but if you could somehow squeeze a baby seat in the centre of the third row...and still maintain the seatbelts for the outer ends? But as you know, these are titchy seats.

And at the end of the day, if the manufacturer says its only a 7-seater it might well be thats all the insurer cares about - all the mods in the world won't change it.

Teach you to keep it in your pants LOL but congrats, whens it due?:thumb2

roof rack ? :augie:lol

yeah double decker, limo stretch.

seriously i fear you're knackered there.

can i suggest the mitsibishi delica, there are 8 seat versions
4x4 people carrier on a shogun/pajero chassis.

think some toyota land cruiser amazon styles are 8s dont think
heard of a troll with 8 but then if my 6 and 7 seats were side
ways could be 6 - 9 seats in all. thinking those UN versions
come troop?carriers.

really most room in terrano is in front, seen rangeys with a baby
seat in lieu of cubby box, back to insurance and modifications.

check out ebay, dunno there might be a nissan version of delica

One to three can do with boosters. Two would need kiddie seats for another year or two and new baby will need baby's seat. I usually have two kiddie seats with booster seat in middle of middle row of seats. One kiddie seat and two boosters would fit in back row of seats if had lap belt for middle. Think you are right because all they kep saying was that if the manufacturer said its a seven seater they must have said that for a reason and maybe I should talk to Nissan :nenau:nenau
As for keeping other things in check--the more the merrier, or the more the madder, is my usual way of thinking about it. Besides there may just be an excuse here for looking at a Nissan Patrol although I don't want to go down that route as it would be costly.
Due second week of april.

Was sure some of the Trolls were 8 seaters:nenau

hey thinking outside box, maybe, another t2.

might be cheaper again providing you both
drive, then keeps everything terrano2 and
got yer selves a convoy, some cb or pmt
radios more room for luggage, back up
vehicle for when its not 8up.

would mean all 8 could use a proper seat
each, so no arguments over lap belt!
and lets face it 6 +7 seats arent brilliant
and then only for pre teen kids.

got friends with 6 kids, i said oh need a minibus
now but they said will take the corsa and zafira
as have them any way.

I know you can add more seats if space permits, i used to have a 7 seat nissan serena that i upgraed to 8 seats by having a lapbelt fitted by a proffessional, then had to send the log book off to make the change to it from saying 7 seats to 8 seats

Toyota Previa, Pug 807, Citroen C8 (I think) then minibus type jobbies like the VW Caravelle...?

Might have to go for something like that initially although herself is still only learning to drive. Have the MazdaB2500 as well so herself can take the kids and I can take all the bags in the tub and I won't need to buy Lacroupades roof box.
How are the passanger seats in the Patrol set-up. Is there not two straight rows?

They were some of the reasons why I got the T2 in the first place. Couldn't face the thought of having to drive around in one of those mini-bus type jobbies.

Will give the motor vehicle registration office a call and see if they will permit that.
