Hi guys, got a slight problem with a 5 lever lock on the side door to my garage. Noticed yesterday key wasn’t working and then found one of the teeth missing off the key. So got spare key but unfortunately lock is jammed. The lock is mounted correctly inside the actual door not like a shed lock that is screwed to inside face of door. Has anyone got any ideas how to open the lock as I don’t really want to damage the door or the frame.

Thanks

Keep trying with the good key whilst thumping the door hard, the vibration may just dislodge the bit, use the key in both directions, if this fails then depending if it is in or out opening use a mini angle grinder to cut the bolt off, often this bolt can be replaced by a good locksmith, Rick

Fixed it!! :clap :clap:clap

I took outside handle off and I have a set of spring hooks, basically a hook on a handle. Dislodged the remains and managed to get it open. Removed lock and opened up but the lock was in a sorry state to be honest. So remembering I had an old one in my garage put my hands straight on to it which was amazing

A bit of chisel work and fitted nicely.

Now settling down to go to sleep :thumbs

Ever so easy to take the lock out Jim.
You can take it to your bench and give it a good rattle and shake as Rick says, hopefully dislodging that key tooth.

If you haven't done it before, here are some destructions......:thumb2

Remove two machine screws from the foreplate on the door edge. this then gives you access to the two wood screws that hold the mortice lock in the door.
If its just a lock, then just pull the body of the lock out from the door edge with a slim screwdriver in one of the fixing holes to help lever it out.
If its a mortice lever lock you'll have to remove the furniture from one side of the door to get to the follower bar that passes through the morticed lever lock to the other side, before following the steps above.

What I did forget to say is the blinking door was locked when the lock jammed :doh
