I have a 4x4, and so do many other people on this site.
However there have been a few problems with Auto locking hubs on the Terranos, and some members have replaced them with Manual locking hubs.

The main problem is testing them to see if they really work, so I have devised this test, but it does require a helper.

1.Find a passenger-helper.
2.If you have manual hubs, lock 'em.
3.Get into some real wet slippery mud.
4.Engage 4 wheel drive.
5.Stop the Terrano (in the mud).
6.Turn the steering wheel all the way left.
7.Stick your head out the driver's side window.
8.Look directly at your front wheel.
9.Floor the accelerator, only for a second or two.
10.Pull your head back in and look at the passenger-helper.
11.If the passenger-helper is laughing, your 4 wheel drive is likely engaging.

Simple test.....:nenau

I think this advice meets all the requirements of this thread.

I also have A nissan 4 X 4 but it only has 1 gear lever & A lot of people dont consider it to be A ( including me ) proper 4 X 4 , its mainly for farm tracks I have to go down for work & to make sure I dont get stuck in the white stuff, did have A real 4 X 4 (jeep cherokee 2.5 td ltd but some one before I had it had'nt used the correct lsd oil hence quick disposal) with three levers which used to be much more fun:rolleyes:
