Hi all
I'm new to the 4x4 thing and have recently brought an 06 Navara, I have used the 4x4 function (High) a couple of times now on straight tracks and today I noticed when doing tight turns around a snow covered car park the truck felt stiff, as though the brakes were on and the wheels did not want to turn??? But when I straightend up it seemed OK, the tighter I turned the more drag I got, is this normal? :?

Probably not enough slip on the tyres and you experienced axle wind/transfer wind up
Best not to use 4wd unless at least one of the wheels is free to spin if it wants to otherwise you could end up having to spend a fortune reparing it
Hope this help

it does and should feel quite different in 4x4 especialy when steering in tight circles!

I dont have a navara so cant comment on your truck, but generaly if it feels a bit tractor like in 4x4, ie heavy steering etc and stops when you de select 4x4 everyhting is OK

but to be honest using 4x4 on hard surfaces in not recomended as it can (long term) cause transmision damage, though for small distances with all matching tyres it should be OK

I was out in the snw today drving round fields and along a couple of bridle paths in 2 wd with road tyres!

Keep the 4x4 for when it gets realy sticky

its normal, i got it on the mav when driving around the snowy carpark a few weeks ago, and also when driving offroad before christmas. as already mentioned, it could be abit of transmission wind up, or just some understeer.

OK thanks for the replys, so it is normal  but I must try and avoid this to prevent damage.

as a quick rule of thumb only drive on loose surfaces in 4x4 mud wet grass etc. and you will soon get to know when you need it and when you dont!
