Hi all, the mobile me and a few mates used to stay in during deer season had to be moved by order of the local council. We are thinking of getting a caravan to replace it but none of us have a clue what to look for. Basically our needs are pretty simple, warm, dry, stable while towing and a bit of comfort rather than luxury, it will only be used by four big lads, unless we get a very sweet deal on a good one. I would welcome info on decent makes to look at and especially makes/models to avoid. Doesn't need to be state of the art but would like something tidy that won't attract plod for a closer look. Will probably buy in Ireland unless someone is flogging a really good one very cheap. Oh yeah, budget is small as it will only be used for a maximum of 12 weekends. I'm sure some of you have a lot of knowledge in this area.:thumb2

If youre wanting bucket end of the market have a look for a sprite musketeer. Very popular in the 1980's/90's . a couple of versions were 5 berth without being too big and heavy.

I had 3 sprites (one a 5 berth musketeer) all were watertight and robust well into old age.

Shouldnt cost you more than a few hundred.

Otherwise bailey do a couple of cracking 2009 model 5 berths around the 14 grand mark ;)

Thanks Dave, think you were on the button with the Sprite Musketeer,on price anyway. If I win the lottery I'll definitely have a look at the Baileys.:lol

Just had a look on donedeal.ie, 2 Sprite Musketeers one for €3,700 and the other for €1,300:eek: They both had awnings ,though.:lol

Awnings always useful if you have flatulent mates LMAO!:D

i definitely go for one with awning because most caravans are built really for 2 adults + children imo, unless you get 2 double beds and 2 fellas in each ;), or a double bed plus 2 long seats as the bunk beds are usless for even grown up children, me and wifey go to a a dorvic bailys show most years to see what's new, we bought a series 5 range and we loved the luxury washroom with a proper flush toilet its nice but when we got to use it our kids grew a few more inches and all i heard all weekend was them moaning about how uncomfortable they were, so i bought one of those jml settes which in 2 secs flips into a cosy bed from fleabay, set it up in the awning we all now fight to sleep in it as it's comfortble spacious and the awning is airy.:doh

I suppose the two doubles idea would open up opportunities for totally new experiences:eek: Only thing with the awning is it would be used in winter near the west coast, probably not the best location to use it. Take your point on the beds ,though. It will only be two nights at a time so maybe draw lots for the comfy bed,if there is one:lol

careful Liam, theres bonding and theres 'bonding'.....:augie:D

Hi Liam

I would go for a continental van. There are loads of Hobby dealers in Ireland. The Hobbys are cheap (I dont think they have VAT on them for some strange reason) and are built well. Travellers use them extensively for their outfits so they will cope with the worst of Irish winter weather.

Regards
Zippy

If your wanting something cheap and cheerful I'd pop round to your local caravan dealers and ask them if they've got anything taken in part-ex there wantin to shift 'sold-as-seen' - some of the bigger dealers have old vans they sell of to the building trade for site huts etc but they might not be out on display :thumb2

yep worth an ask.. to a dealer they are hard to sell on, if work is needed too.
