Right guys got a electrical gremlin now and I'm convinced it's the battery. So can anyone take a look at the photos and see if this is the correct battery for a 3 litre. After two attempts I've finally got a Yuasa 830cca battery from Halfords with the terminals same orientation as my current battery but now the earth lead isn't long enough.
I soooooo hate this bloody car:eek:

I'm sorry Jim but I can't help it, you are not having any luck, it's sorta comical mate :lol:lol

I'm going to come down for a day or two and go through that bleedin' truck like a masala through a nun :D:thumbs

Right after sleeping on it and thinking about it a lot! I came up with a cunning plan.
The earth cable comes down from the battery and attaches to an earth point on the inner wing and then continues on to the head below the intercooler. I removed the headtank without losing coolant and relocated the earth connection on the inner wing.
The battery that I've got is slightly longer than the old battery but has a larger capacity and better cca than the standard battery. The current battery was far too small and not even sure it was listed anywhere for a 3litre Terrano.

From what I've worked out several website including Halfords and KwikFit would appear to list this larger battery which to be honest is incorrect as it is not a straight fit. Alpha Batteries in Rochdale do list what I think is the correct battery but it hasn't got the same cca.

I can't be the first person to have come across this surely?

Not seen a 3l, bur on both our 2.7 t2's, the positive term is near the engine. It looks to me like the positive cable is not run correctly.

there was a question about a 3l battery a while ago and i went and looked at my bosch one, terminals the same as above except my earth comes from nearer the lump not behind the header tank.i did post model no.

Yep same configuration as mine Ian. I removed battery which allowed acces to lower mounting bolt for the expansion bottle, bottle then slid up out of it's bracket. Then I could get to the earth tag/bolt on the inner wing. Then it allowed me to relocate the eartht ag with a new hole through the inner wing and a new bolt. Now I've got a huge battery.
Windows are now running up and down quicker as well so I reckon those cowboys probably left radio on or something and drained the already inadequate battery. Gave it a boost and started it to hand over to my son expecting that we would start driving around as normal to recharge the battery.

Good man Jim, what did you get in the end as I'm still after one too

That's a beast Jim!!!!

Excuse the mess, it's going to have an engine bay clean when I'm done underneath. This is my battery terminal config on the 3 litre

We had a bigger battery in the fiesta lol

Way too small, I'm surprised it can start the truck.
You want as close to 100Ah as you can get, and as close to 1000 CCA as possible. 830 CCA should be fine though.

If that old battery does start the truck, worth keeping it as a back up, or as a second battery.

Would be interesting to see if it has nissan air filter too, see what quality is like compared after market ones, sorry for hijack jim :thumb2

Wouldn't have called it a hijack, it's how the threads develop and progress.

Looks like I did the right thing with the battery which is good to hear as I was getting rather despondent with the truck.
