HOW EASY IS IT DO A CLUTCH..........:nenau

IF IT ISNT PLEASE ADVISE.:thumbs
GOT NO ACCESS TO RAMPS .LIFT OR GARAGE FACILITIES,OR AM I BETTER TAKING TO CLUTCH SPECIALIST...
MANY THANKS

IMHO you would struggle without the right kit...but be careful - 'clutch specialist' is often a misnomer...I've found them to be anything but in the past!

You might be just as well finding a decent non-franchise garage with a reasonable reputation and agreeing a price with them...

Thanks for your reply, will try local garage no idea of price rung 1 today got no return message as promised:augie never mind always tomorrow,
couldnt help noticing you were in wigan not far from me at warrington, bit of a trek for you,and no hills either.:nenau

Complex things them spanners - oh and a jack, technical stuff.

Theres a recent post - someone did a clutch in 4.5hrs at home, book time is 7 apparently. No reason to think 3.0 will be any worse than 2.7.

If I needed to I'd do it at home, probably call a mate in to help with the lifting but other than that its just a bit time consuming.

took me nearly 8 hours the round trip because of traffic on the way back....used to that route though, wife is from Barrow in Furness...

I'd check prices with a known clutch specialist as well...I've seen references on here to it being an 8-hour job (thats a lot of labour rate!) but someone did it recently in 4.5 hours which is much more like it in my view. I'd check the online prices of a clutch kit as well in case its worth getting the bits for them.....and if you're there and plan to keep the truck for a while its worth getting things like thrust bearings etc looked at with a view to changing them - if the things in bits I don't think the cost of such items is very much, so worth a thought...

thats true enough, BUT if i remember right it was him and his mate..

oh yea and they were both mechanicas doing it at there work with all the right stuff to hand..

well that will rule me out then,
struggle to get the wifes purse open never mind getting my own clutch done:lol:lol:lol

i think thats cause a purse has selfdefence built in

the clutch its self is the easy part.
its all the work involved getting to the gearbox.
starter motor has to come off
front torsion bars have to come off.
front and rear prop shafts
inside the car you have to remove the centre console and shift levers
x member which torsion bars fasten to has to be removed.
and then finally you get to the gearbox.
had mine off twice in the past year but its no fun on your own:(

ah but you see i read between the lines Terra.....

yes its true got my clutch done in 4.5 hours, but as zippy said there was 2 of us and we done it at work on a 2 post ramp, a lot of work to get the gearbox out but i wouldnt want to do it at home on the floor.
the clutch kit cost me £131 from nissan but that was with trade discount,
should of been £154.
give a garage a call they might do a deal as work is a bit slow and they might need the work.
when i first got the truck last year i went to a local nissan dealer to get a quote, they quoted £900 with loan car but then phone later in the day and said they could do it the next day for £600, so give it a go you never know
plus the thrust bearing comes in the kit aswell.
cheers eboy

not sure you'll have one but needs someone with either this truck or the 3-litre patrol that it came from to comment..the manual covers the 3.0 variant, have you got the link?

I was told ages ago 5 Months actually that my clutch was on its way out. because i get a judder sometines on the uptake.

Also when we had some really bad cold i could not get it into gear for a min or so after starting it.

I still get the judder but works fine. Never had it changed.

I was quoted 550 by Mr Clutch including parts. the parts had to come from Nissan as the 3ltr didnt have a aftermarket kit at that time.

To be honest that wasnt a bad price seen for 660 in other places. But still going so not had it done yet.

nothing like that happening, just that it is having to travel 3/4 down before easy changing ,just looking ahead not had long but want to get it right for long term ownership, plus i will be touring with caravan, does not crunch so not that bad:augie,100k on clock and :dohgot no history with it just being picky ,done oil air and fuel filter but that would be my limit skill wise,:doh,
relying on others judgement for now, once again thanks for your input

You sure that it needs changing????????

when you release clutch pedal it makes a horrible noise when ticking over:eek: and when you press pedal it goes ,:augieso i guess its on its way out,and with no fluid loss from cylinder i can only presume that it is on the way out:augie

No (bad news I'm afraid) that sounds more like a gearbox problem.
