Hello,
Excuse me as i am a newby to forum life.

Has anybody got any advice/ information on tuning the terrano 3.0.
Would like to hear from people who have blanked egr valve, de-cat pipes and remapping.

Thanks in advance:thumb2

Hi,
there is a wealth of ZD30 engine information on the Aussie Patrol forum, much of it very good.
Although the Terrano ZD30's are supposedly "fixed" by Nissan, I'd suggest you start by reading this:
http://www.mypatrol4x4.com/topic/57-nads-step-by-step-guide/

Thanks
I have been gathering parts for this modification, so far I have the egr blank have manufactured a catch can, have a Dawes valve, I have yet to get egt sensor/ gauge
boost gauge and not to sure if I need a needle valve? I have been quoted £400 for a stainless exhaust( including de-cat pipe).
It seems people only complete NADS on the Patrol, looking through the forums I am having difficulty finding people who have done this to the Terrano or who have suffered this on the Terrano

Thanks

The post 2002 ZD30's are supposedly more reliable, but I would still tread cautiously. Nissan did not change that many things, one of which
was to increase the oil capacity or shorten the dip stick!
If your going to be tuning for more BHP, then I feel an EGT should be the first item fitted before any other mods, then you have a reference point for later.

You'll need the needle valve to take boost control away from the ecu bud as the dawes valve will make it throw a wobbly.

You only really need dawes and needle valve if you're blanking the egr. If you don't fit the valves the increased egt from blanking the egr will cause overboost. Overboost is one of the prime causes of the 3.0 grenade issues. If you're not blanking the egr then you shouldn't need to worry about fitting the valves. If you are fitting them you'll need a boost gauge fitted at least so that you can set the valves properly.

Fitting a catch can is a good idea all round. I've seen the state of the throttle body from the crankcase oil mist! I've got a pro vent to fit as soon as my pipes and reducers arrive :thumb2

I don't have the valves fitted yet but possibly will at some point in the future - if I haven't put a 4.2 engine in the Trol by then :naughty

Should have added I spoke to a guy in the Facebook group who had blanked the egr on his 3.0 Terrano without touching anything else and he was getting classic overboost symptoms.

A remap should be ok as you're altering a variety of factors in harmony rather than one factor in isolation.

I've been running a DTUK tuning box for almost a year now in third setting from max. No issues whatsoever and fantastic torque all the way through rev range. Also a replacement K&N filter too. Wider tyres to cope in the wet too, coming out of wet roundabouts with all that torque can be 'eventful' (even with fresh lsd oil).
I did blank off the EGR valve for a bit but picked up slight hesitation and stall from over boost at times.

had a 2000my trol, was giving over boost a lot, the more i looked at it the more i
found bodges and broken bits, where fan cowl been off etc, dodgy wiring.

had over heating issues towing, changed water pump, tried electric fans, stat was
a pig compared to 2.7.

defined hgf, top off 3 out o4 pistons cracked, so rebuilt, 3 grand later ran so so.

then tried to seize, but cooled and ok. was diagnosed various sensors, lost faith
went back to 2.7 t2 but still miss comfort. might consider a much newer one,
one day but keep stock.

lots of my threads in trol area, from 2009/10/11.

do believe by time zd went in t2 was vastly improved.

I've had my egress valve blanked for years.
Never had any issues, other than better mpg

If you've not done anything else like fitting dawes valve etc then I reckon you're probably in the minority bud (lucky you!).

It may be that our colder climate keeps the EGTs low enough to stop the ECU overboosting :nenau

Do you ever find the truck hesitates slightly when you're cruising? A bit like it's been hit by a strong gust of wind?

If so it could well be the overboost protection kicking in. The ECU detects the overboost and disconnects the throttle pedal. Lifting off the pedal resets it and returns things back to normal.

I will keep my 3.0 standard, pulls plenty for me and fuel consumption is better than my 2.7 was, it's mainly used for towing the van these days.

+1:thumb2 I like mine just like it is, with plenty enough power.......and mine pulls big sticks, not caravans......:thumb2

Same here. Ideal for pulling the van and I'm keeping the side steps till they fall off. :D

Have no issues at all with out the egr.
I should add that this is my 3rd sve and all have had the egr blanked.

Yep, had that, right pain.
