Anyone know if the exhaust system is the same on the 3.0 as the 2.7?

Heard a clunk last night and found it was the exhaust gone. Rusted where the pipe meets centre box.:doh:doh:doh Anyone had to do one recently or can recommend a good value supplier?

Cheers

Walshie off thread a bit (well a lot actually!), but when you engage 4WD on your 3.0 how do you do it? Is it at rest or low speed only and do you have to reverse to disengage the hubs when switching back to 2WD?

On the issue of the exhaust, getting a decent aftermarket is very difficult...and the wrong cheapo can drive you mad with low frequency vibration.

Look for a Bosal or similar, or companies like Powerflow can knock you up a stainless version....not cheap at £300-400 but you never buy another...

I'm almost certain the centre and rear sections are the same as the 2.7, but the frontpipe is not, but i stand to be corrected, as parts diagrams for the 3 litre are very few and far between..

For the 2.7, there are two combinations- one with a flange between tailpipe and center section- this will be the twin box one, and the other is a sleeve fit tailpipe and a one box centre section.

You'll need to have a look under yours to see which type you have.

Cheers for the advice - I was afraid it would be expensive!! Have you had to replace yours?

I wasn't aware of needing to engage hubs when going from 2wd to 4wd, and I've done it both stationary and at low speeds in a straight line, though it does seem smother doing it when moving slowly. Without wanting to sound like a complete amateur I'm pretty sure I am getting into 4wd ok because I can definitely feel more drag especially when turning, and I can't believe I'd have got up the slopes I did in the snow last Feb if I was in 2wd! (If anyone knows High Wycombe they'll know what I'm talking about!!)

If you made it up the big hill to Asda then you've got 4WD alright! LOL.

So to get back to 2WD do you just move the lever back and thats all? (on the 2.7 you'd need to move the lever then reverse a couple of metres to disengage the hubs and extringuish the 4WD light - but it seems the 3.0 has permanently engaged front hubs which the more fuel-efficient 3.0 can cope with).

Nope - I managed the hill up over the bridge and up the side of the ski-slope - un-gritted! :):)

Now you mention it I have noticed the 4wd light staying on for a while sometimes after I come out of 4wd. I wonder if the hubs are still engaged? I'll experiment tomorrow and let you know!

Nice one!!

What does your sun visor sticker (or handbook) tell you to do? If it says to reverse a bit then you've got auto hubs, if it says something else then they are likely to be permanently fixed. Its just I haven't seen anyone yet cough to having these later hubs....

Hi i have 3.0 and change to 4 wd high whilst driving and also disengage to 2 wd and the light goes out straight away and no mention of reversing on the sun visor .
Hope this is of use to you.

Replaced back muffler box and tail pipe in 2.7TDI LWB 2000 recently. It come as one piece. Some models seem to have a second box but mine doesn't. Same break in mine where the tail pipe joins the box. Paid E 80.00 for the lot including gasket at a regular motor factors.

Had to change mine last year. Tail pipe fell off due to rust.
Got a replacement from www.milneroffroad.com, as cheap as anywhere I could find on-line and...they had it in stock!!! On their website today, £138 for the 3 sections, I don't think that's changed.
