sump rot

post it to me ill do it at work for free and you pay the return poatage.. unless you need it very fast then just roll in a garage im sure they will find the time..

Thanks for the offer larson, if its off the car i'm able to weld it myself.
I might take it off this w/end if i get the time, i've sprayed WD on all the fixings and can't wait to get stuck in, "jesus i'm sad" its just the weight and awkwardness of the front diff as it comes out with the cross member still attached that may be a bit tricky as i'm doing it on the drive!.
once again larson thanks for the kind offer....

Nissan4u parts site shows the same part number for both the 2.7 & 3.0 oil pan: 11110 9S001.

Mmm that's interesting! One on eBay for 2.7 but has pipe coming off bottom side of sump, mine does not have this pipe? But I will look into this further.

Well I've started to get the sump off this afternoon, had a couple of spare hours before lack of light stopped play. I've, done everything except 2 bolts holding the diff in, so should have the sump off in about an hour in the morning fingers crossed, touch wood and all that.
I'm doing it different to the manual as it seems to make unnecessary work! Just hope it works out I'll find out in the morning, wish me luck!!!!

Sumps off!

Sumps off so got to get it welded now.
Going to paint underneath the car while iv'e got the room before putting it back together..

sump

when the garage changed my sump they said it took 10 hrs pluss they changed the oilfilter & fuel filter in that time aswell cost 300 ish roy

never a 10 hour job.. dont you just drain oil and remove about 10 bolts?

Sump rot

Well sump all welded up, start the refit tomorrow but unsure of what gasket sealant to use? I have used off the shelf gasket goo on sumps in the past and had no issues so why would this sump be any different to the others?.
I have a unopened V-tech Vital Black RTV silicone gasket maker 600'f which states sumps/oil pans of one of its uses!
Can anyone give me a reason to spend £40+ at the stealers for liquid gasket?.

Cracked it!

All done! Even painted the parts I removed and around front suspension area.
"Engine out my arse" all done from below on a set of ramps and a trolley jack.
The only difficult part of the job I would say is the weight of the diff "bloody heavy" other than that just simple nuts n bolts and a few short cuts!...
I'm going to hammerite & waxoyl the complete chassis that should impress the MOT man lol.......Tony.

Well done,It's a good feeling when you can repair something yourself, and it's even better when you know how much you could have splashed out to have it done for you:thumb2

Cheers mate just hope its not like the Discovery TD5 I once owned, fix one thing and something else breaks the day after!.

Maxwell, where was your sump rusty, I have checked my one and the bottom/lower part where the plug is, is solid, just wondering if yours was leaking there or higher up

Hi,
It was the lower area mostly, ok around the plug though.
Even though yours may be good make sure it stays that way, give it a coat of paint in that area.

Yes, will do mate, this car is so much cleaner than my old 2001 Terrano was underneath and I plan to blitz it with plenty of B H products :thumb2

Sorry for the delay, here's the pic's I promised when fixing my rusty sump?

All done with engine in the car on a set of ramps, just removed front diff and a few other bits "n" bobs lol..

That's amazing how bad your sump pan was, what year is your car.
It looks much better now, what type of paint is that, and was it sprayed on:)

The first pic is with it on the car, Hard to believe it didn't loose any oil I think I caught it just in time!.
The cars a 2002 3.0 SVE in fantastic condition so why the sump was in such a state who knows.
I painted it with Hammerite smooth with a good quality brush and you would swear it was sprayed!.h
I also had a leak on a power steering pipe under a clip, (a well known Problem on the Terrano ) I cut the bad piece out and put some hydronic pipe in "job done"
