Hi everyone iv'e been getting a bit of oil dripping on the drive so i thought i better get it fixed before the mrs starts moaning.
I found the culprit right away its a power steering pipe corroded under a fixing clip, looks like an easy fix to me i'll cut the damaged bit of pipe out and put in about 4" of hydrolic pipe.
Unfortunatley it went tits up from there, while under the car i noticed the sump had quite an oily patch on it, on closer inspection i found the sump is rotton at its lowest point so bad i darent touch it in case it gets any worse.

Iv'e looked at whats required in removing the sump, ok its alot of work, a couple of cross members, front diff, drive shafts and anything else in tne way but better than lifting the engine!.
I now need to source a sump for a Terrano 3.0 DI so anyone got one for sale
or tips on someone who might?
Thanks all. I'll keep you posted once i source the sump.

A few people are getting sump rot, some have used a 2part epoxy, some welded patches over the rot, with different end results.:augie

There is a thread on this somewhere...:nenau

sump rot

If i don't find a used sump i could take it off and get the rot cut out and re fabricated properly or i bite the bullit and go new, I'm calling my local Nissan stealer tomorrow for a price "gulp".

As for the power steering pipe all done! took 20mins....

I think one of the patrol engines could be the same as yours, but would the sump be the same?:nenau

After fixing my oil switch problem, I thought I would have a good look around under the car, very please with it, there was a bit of surface rust but I have given it a good dose of Bilt Hamber under body treatment.
Better take the engine plate off again and check the sump, it can only rust from the outside in.;)

just had exactly the same with mine ,i noticed oil patches on the drive but this time my mrs also noticed it NOT GOOD:doh ive got a local garage the guy deals in 4x4s he took 1 look & said i can weld it he has done loads on land rovers in past due to off roading, he assured me a good job & with a £40 quote i said get it done . my also turned out to be a rusty sump but he cut a plate to size ground the sump ..sump empty as this stage out came electric welder he did a perfect job , been done about 2 weeks now oil level never dropped very pleased & £40 was hell of a lot cheaper than changing the sump:doh

Gazterrano do you have the address & contact details of the garage who welded your sump it maybe worth me having them do the work.
Although I live in Chester I could make it a day out lol.

sump rot

Just priced up a new sump from the stealers, £332 + vat, £398.40 inc. well thats not happening!, looks like i'll be getting this one repaired....

Just checked a local breaker to me, they have 3 Terrano's in, one is a 2004 swb van, looks like a nice set of late alloys.
Any one interested, just google ASM and go to car parts
I have no interests in this company, by the way

They also have a 2004 Patrol

bloody hell they aint cheap didnt realise that much tho:doh

Why not try a breakers yard, there must be plenty of these about

So how long would a second hand one last then...:nenau

Seems to be a common problem, so are we talking about impact damage, paintwork chipping, or salt corrosion?

All depends on it's condition, if it looks ok, give it a good dose of preserver and fit.
Most breakers will send photos of items they are trying to sell

post it to me ill do it at work for free and you pay the return poatage.. unless you need it very fast then just roll in a garage im sure they will find the time..

Does this not mean you would get bits of rusted metal stuck on the engine :nenau
