Hi all,
I'm new and this is my first post.
I've read plenty though so thanks for all the info. I've now got a bit of my own to share -
I've had my T2 since the end of last July and until recently I've just had the oil light problem which I've not bothered to sort out yet.
Got the groaning noises coming from the power steering a couple of weeks ago. Remembered the same noise from years ago in a Punto I had which just needed the rack bleeding. So, thought it would be an easy fix. Well, you know what thought did. So once I'd noticed that there was a small leak of power steering fluid and I'd topped up the bottle I set off to find the leak. Lo and behold the aluminium cooler pipe had corroded through under the mounting rubber. The good news is that with less than 3 metres of 10mm copper tubing, a mini pipe bender and an old brake pipe flaring tool a one-piece replacement can be made for about a fiver. Didn't even bother asking Nissan dealer how much they'd want for a paltry piece of pipe on this occasion but I'll bet my right arm (don't need it I'm a lefty) that it won't be cheap.
Also, recently had squealing noises coming from the front end.
First off I removed the drive belt auto tensioner and have replaced the bearing in the pulley. This cost a mere £18.98 compared to well over £200 from the main dealer without the spring tensioner attached or over £300 with it!!! You can't get the exact size of bearing I have found (14mm wide) but a slightly wider one fits inside the pressed steel pulley no problem. It's a 17x40x16mm (centre x outer x width) which any good bearing supplier can obtain for you on a next day basis.
Next on my list, because today I was very disappointed not to have cured the noise is a new water pump. Once removed it has a little play in the bearings and makes some noise when spun by hand. The main dealers quoted me £255 plus VAT = over £300!!! Anyway, if any of you have the same problem then contact Radiator Services Direct Ltd, Stoke-On-Trent on 0845 4080930 who are posting a new water pump to me for £149.50 delivered. Yayyy!
If it rains, it pours. Why do things always happen at the same time???
Hopefully, all will be well in a couple of days time.
