Finally made a start at fitting it
I got the alt and aircon bracket from CNCFABS way back
Below is the bracket and the alt mated

The pic below shows the aircon bracket in place, I removed the radiator to gain access

Then offered the alt up to adjust the nuts to align the pulleys

This is the front view just before I fitted the nuts to lock it all together

That is when the monsoon hit Westcliff
So tomorrow I need to get a belt to fit, suggestions as to how to measure it right first time please, I will be using the aircon belt adjuster
I may need to shorted the bolt in the blind hole in the aircon bracket to clear the belt
The bolt in the adjuster hole will be redundant
More pics when the weather clears up

the way I sort a belt is get an old one that is more than long enough and cut it, with the adjuster less than mid way pull it as tight as you can around the pulleys and mark where they join, from that most motor factors have a gismo that gives the belt length from your measured belt length, never sure if they measure inside diameter or outside, Rick

Belt

Thanks Rick, I changed the belts when I fitted the new water pump so I will use one of the old ones :thumbs

I think Halfords belts are code numbered in millimetres,

I just though...:augie
If you do get an old belt and trim it down to the right length...:augie
Don't be surprised if the guy at the counter reads the original belt part No. and gives you a replacement belt for that size lol...:doh:doh

Before you measure the belt, make sure the second alternator is closest to the drive pulley with a bit of tolerance, because as the belt beds in, and any later adjustments, you will need to move the alternator away from the drive pulley, as belts stretch and never shrink... unlike some things in life as you get older...:naughty
I was thinking of bank balances... what were you? lol :lol

I'm not seeing pics as very interested in doing this

belt adjustment

I plan to use the aircon belt adjuster.

No idea why pictures do not show, anyone else have a problem?

I will put all the pictures on the facebook site when all is working

Privacy setting on the hosting site?

I can see the above pic but not the ones on your first post, but I do have a good imagination.:augie

Now I wonder if the parts supplier will drill the new belt and fit the cable tie lol...:doh

no pics

Well that is odd, I can see them both on my PC and my mobile, BUT the mobile is on the same network as the PC, I am wireless at home
I guess it must be google messing with things, all my pics go straight to google without me doing anything, right clicking them gives me a URL similar to the others photobucket I think, hopefully there is a work around

missing pic update

Thanks Rick,
I just had a look further into the google photo stuff, looks like there is a shareable link, I will try that, this is the shareable link
https://goo.gl/photos/tRKo74RQgjJfAtgZ8
Looks like you have to click on it, what a pain, I will have to find out how the rest of you do it, is there a link anywhere to how to do it?:bow:bow

A little test to see what happens.
One pronblem I can see is that the URL doesn't end in a usual file name like .png or .jpeg. It appears in the preview mode.
EDIT: Seems OK from here, I assume everyone else can see it too atm.

Looking at that pic, one issue I would check is that the alternator does not hit on engine shake at shutdown, Rick

THanks Rick, I will make sure the alt is tight up against aircon bracket at the bottom, the belt should hold it tight, but I will check it does not move on shutdown

all done

All running now pictures to follow
I need a bit of advice from those of you who know, as I already have a wire from the other alternator to power the relay that used to supply the second battery I have used that for the 12 volts to the lamp to make the 2nd alt kick in, this seems to work well BUT I am a little concerned this may cause a problem.
Rick finding somewhere to brace the 2nd alt may be a problem BUT there is a bolt hole in the aircon bracket I may be able to use, I have realised it is not a good idea as you said to rely on the belt tension to hold the alt in place, a little job for tomorrow
Are the pictures still missing?
Is it worth while writing this up for a workshop?
