So I check the oil before I left for the Isle of Wight and to my horror the
dipstick was dry :nenau, I'd only checked it 2 weeks previous and it was full.

I brought a 5 litre bottle from the garage by me and put about 3 litres in which put the oil to the max point on the dipstick.

We were about to leave the camp site this morning and I thought I'd check the oil again before our trip back and to my horror after only a couple of hundred miles of driving, the dipstick now only shows 1/4 full :O

I've def got no leaks, apart from the tiny one from my lower crankshaft oil seal which is currently being caught by a tin that I have fastened to the chassis so I can only presume that it's being used by the engine :nenau

I'm not showing any smoke at all from the Exhaust and fuel consumption hasn't changed etc

Can anyone offer any advice

I'm on the brink of seriously chopping this truck in and selling all the bits I've put on it as I'd never recoup the amount of money I've spent on it by selling it.

I'm half hoping for any of you that haven't already seen my crash thread that the insurance company write it off

To go off topic I've also developed a really loud rattle from the front left wheel, the gearbox wont shut up rattling now in neutral since I've replaced the Oil for 80w-90 and my springs at the back may be damaged as they are making a right row as well now

:(

Mine burns a bit of oil but you can see it and smell it when I first start up.
Would be smoking all the time I would have thought if it was burning that much.
Have a look underneath while it's running just to see if you can see anything.

If you have noticed a whine from the box/gear train since the accident :augie:augie.
This would defo write the truck off :)

Well look, if your looking for an excuse get a proper by the book estimate from nissan including EVERYTHING!!! And write the thing off, which it will big time!! Book price must be what? Pence no doubt? :nenau

TBH both of the TDI's i've had have used a little oil but no where near anything like your suffering

that is a lot of oil, your biggest worry is "engine runaway" if it is going trough the turbo, but sounds to me that on hot longer runs it is just passing the pistons and being burnt direct, Rick

That sounds more likely Rick :(

Should I be getting it pressure tested?

you can but to my mind just throwing money away, if it was the turbo or oil filter thingy, I am sure you would of had at couple of runaways by now, so it comes to small passing on the pistons, = engine gone, but will be OK for a long time round town, just watch it on a run, cncfabs may have an engine, Rick

The oil catch tank thing on the breather system may be faulty & letting loads of oil into the induction pipe before the turbo you'll sharp know if you take off the pipe & look inside if it's soaking with oil

As said if it was this then that amount of oil it would feed the engine and run away, even if only a short time, Rick

Your right there Rick but mentioned if because if the trap is at fault it's a cheap fix as there was a post on here the other day as someone had found them for sale on ebay for £14 but they were listed as a LR part :lol

Rick, what would be involved in a repair like that to stop the oil passing into the pistons?

Skim the head, new gasket.......... ?????

While it's out i'm sure it would be worth changing the clutch and fixing my lower crankshaft oil leak?

If the insurance do repair it and give it me back, I'd hate to swap the engine as that's the beating heart of my car and what makes it "Marvin" (sorry to get soppy)

if it is passing the pistons then an expensive re bore and new pistons (over size), so do not go that route, more than the truck is worth, I doubt it is the oil catcher as said before you would have seen run away but having said that at £14 worth a try, Rick

Is it worth me ripping it off and checking it anyway?

TBH I would only a 2 min job to take the induction pipe off the turbo to have a look & you can see into the turbo at the same time:thumb2 took mine off just the other week to check as my last T2 was getting oil sucked from the breather system into the induction side & will continue to keep checking it as the years go on:augie

Good god :( That sounds involved and expensive, is there no other way out of the engine that this could be escaping, or tell me I'm checking the oil wrong please :bow
