Hi.. im new on here so hello to all:thumbs I have been drawn to this forum for help with some issues on my motor. i've had it just over a year and i like it apart from running issues, its a p reg round headlight model. its always annoyed me abit when i pull away i have to blip the throttle or rev it abit more than i would my pickup or it cuts out. but recently it has been cutting out on the move or hunting on tickover or reving up as i drive along for an instant (its abit like a fairground ride!!)
today though it just cut out and took about 5 goes to restart, it turned over and fired then just cut out each time, took key out then it started on next attempt. is this a common fault, is it the pump is it the fly by wire stupid throttle system? any help appreciated as i want it reliable for when the snow eventually come to where i live cheers nick

sounds like the ckp or crank sensor do a search for that on here :thumbs

I agree with Geoff, CKP all the way! easy fix at least

being a novice on these where is the sensor located, is it easy to change and is it a main dealer only part or would motor factors do it

what age of mav u got has it got a bosch maf or hitatch sorry spelling if bosch then its ontop of the bell housing at back of engine if the other type of maf then its on the front of the block behind the vis cus fan:thumbs

When I had to replace my CKP it was located at the front of the engine behind fan belt. I think your year of motor it will be in the same location.

Also check the Downloads section within Quick Links. There is instructions for reading the fault codes with the aid of nothing more technical than a paper clip. This may also throw up some clues as to what's wrong.

just looked its hitachi

in that case, yours is the same as mine. It will be located, as jim says, front of engine. So, open the bonnet, look between the top most belt to the right of the viscous. Shine a torch down there. Between the belts, you will see a small, round black thing, with one bolt holding it in, and one wire coming out, and up over the thermostat area to the plugs. That's the CKP. VERY easy to swap (bit tight for knuckles, but totally a DIY job). I searched and searched mate, for my model, I could only go main dealer, £180 please. The problem with mine was the year, you see in later models, they changed the CKP type, and the plug is different, the sensor is longer, but its way cheaper. You need to check this, then double check, because it took me a few main dealers to get the correct one.

you can try a used one, but personally, I wouldn't bother if you intend to keep the car a few years, I tried two, both no good. They are heat sensitive with them being magnets, and simply get less effective over time, basically.

If it helps, I can send you my stock code.

£180 !! Bloody hell.

I've got one doing nothing on my maverick if you want to try a cheaper 2nd hand part

I know...but that's main dealer prices for you. I totally exhausted all possibilities believe me, before paying that. glad I did though.

thanks for the replies it has behaved its self since the cutting out episode, but i dont trust it so i shall investigate the sensor. just changed all the belts shame i didnt know about sensor before i could have done that at the same time:rolleyes: had lots of jap motors and people say parts are expensive, but they never go wrong got a ford thinking parts cheap but not many parts for the mavericks other than main dealer and boy they are expensive!!! asked price for rear bump stop they wanted £85+vat
although this is a bit juicy compaired with my mk1 trooper i used to have i do like it so want it reliable

been busy but finally got around to looking for the sensor. how can it sense the crank up there? the head looks square-ish with one wire coming out does that make it the longer or shorter one? thanks

ahh thanks. got to replace it driving me mad cutting out at the most annoying times

would a faulty crank sensor cause lack of power??

dont cut out at all, just no go!
