error code 18 could be air/water in fuel, electrical connection or the pump itself.
the steel fuel lines are prone to rusting through on the section over the rear axle.
Have a look for any wet patches along the fuel lines.
also check the fuel primer pump is good and hard to depress and not being sucked down while the engine is running.
have you changed the fuel filter recently??

Have a look in the quick links at the top right of the page at the workshop downloads.
full instructions on how to do the mini filter are there as well as loads of other usefull guides:thumb2:thumb2

I will also check these small earth connections, but I see that you tend not to take into account error code 18, relating to the injection pump, why ?
also I would kindly like to know if the mini filter is inside the banjo bolt that you see at the top right of the attached photo
thank you

Giacomo

Yes sorry I did not address the code 18 because I have a comprehensive fault code listing with more info on each code than most lists display, unfortunately I have not needed it for some time and cannot find it, re the mini filter it is on the banjo on the rear of the pump depending on model/year etc there will be a fine orifice in some part of the banjo, this is very important to the running of the pump, also as I have forgotten the the reasons for your post but there is a pressure regulating valve at the front of the pump next to the inlet banjo, this is on a 2 sided 10mm special bolt, it is well worth removing this to check the piston in the bolt is not stuck or sticky, again this is a very important part of the overall function of the pump,Rick

Thank you Rick,
ecutalk consult cable arrived, diagnosis made with the following fault codes :

11 cam pos. sens. ( pump )
18 F/Inj F/B2
47 Crank Pos Sen ( TDC )
1403 Nats malfunction

Thank you Rick
since I will have to replace the Zexel pump, and after reading the very little information about the workshop manual, I wanted to know if there are any particular operations to pay attention to
in particular I would like to know if in addition to phasing the two timing gears and marking the pump body with respect to its support, there is something else to do .....

No as long as you keep the timing gears correct there is nothing else to worry about, Rick

Thank you
do you know if in the forum there is a " how to "with some pics ?
furthermore, supposing that the pump arrives with its key at 12 o'clock, and I involuntarily give it a 360 ° turn, what happens ?

Giacomo

no problem for the pump shaft position: Pump gear is timed with the camshaft, not with the crankshaft.

but why are you replacing the pump instead of getting it overhauled? or are you replacing it with a overhauled unit?

when i changed my pump i timed it all up to gear markings and removed pump then made sure woodruff key was in same position them put pump in aligning key to gear slot with no problem after.

Thank you panelbeater
and you didn't need to mount the comparator to do a detailed timing ?

Giacomo

Come costo all'incirca stiamo lì, ma non è facile trovare il pompista bravo che ci voglia mettere le mani.....

Hi all, update
I mounted the new rebuilt Zexel pump, but when the engine is starting, it stays at 1400 rpm for a few seconds and then goes to 900 rpm, furthermore, during the driving there are some power gaps ( I don't know what to call them )
for now no mil light
thank you

Giacomo

Hi,
any advice or idea to solve my problem ?
apart from returning the pump to the seller ...
thank you

Giacomo

It does sound like the pump has not been set up correctly, Rick

Hi all,
problem fixed
after having reassembled, taken the injection pump to the specialist, and having done the set up correctly, the engine is now fine
thank you

Giacomo
