Hi all,

I have this Nissan Terrano 2 2.7 Tdi (Zexel pump) that has the following problem: at about 1000/1200 rpm, touching the accelerator pedal, the engine misses, loses blows, saw ..... and turns on the mil light.
while waiting for EcuTalk consult cable to arrive, I have already to fit a new Hitachi Maf but the problem is not solved
I made a diagnosis with the blink codes and there are the following error codes: 18 - 47 - 143
what do you think ?
electronic fuel pump ....?
thank you

Giacomo

I know 47 is crankshaft position sensor
18 is fuel pump related and not sure on 143.

Thank you elty001
but shouldn't the crankshaft position sensor give problems especially when starting ?
and for code 18 would you replace the injection pump.....?

Usually will start ok but when warm the coil of wire in the cps expands causing a break and causing running issues.
The injector pump code could be a secondary fault caused by the crank sensor throwing out the fueling.
Best thing to do is clear the codes,go for a drive and see what happens and what new codes are stored.

In fact it is what i will do as soon as i receive the ecutalk consult cable .....

You can test the Crank position sensor when cranking, it should give 2.5 volts ac , test it hot and cold if much less than 2.5 it is goosed, Rick

Thank you solarman216
do you know on which connector pins to make this measurement in V ac?

Giacomo

There are 3 pins one is simply a screen, to find which two to use first test for ohms resistance, should be around 1500 ohms, then use the same two pins to check for voltage, Rick

I did the resistance test: 1400 ohms
while the Volts ac test must be done with the connector connected or disconnected ?
thank you

Giacomo

1400 ohms is good, do the volt test with the plug disconnected, if the reading is bad try removing the sensor (easy on the Zexel as it is on the timing cover) and check for a build up of magnetic crud on the magnet, Rick

Volts ac test : 2,4V
I removed the crank position sensor ,no crud on the magnet but there was some oil

Giacomo

2.4 is fine yes there will be oil on the sensor, looks like you will need to look else ware for your fault, think I would be checking all earth connections to the engine, there are many small ones, Rick

I will also check these small earth connections, but I see that you tend not to take into account error code 18, relating to the injection pump, why ?
also I would kindly like to know if the mini filter is inside the banjo bolt that you see at the top right of the attached photo
thank you

Giacomo
