Is it not a two stroke premix jobby.
is the alternator input fixed to the output shaft of the engine.
or is a belt drive used, thinking could up or down gear the
ratio.
just to give you another project , a mate and i were talking
about building a go kart, having an old basic genny on board
but using a battery and motor as an electric transmission
thinking by of a sinclair c5, with power option really.
then look at regenative braking from drive motor back into
battery, following hybrid car and bus technology.
anyway time for my medication....
If you can get it to exhaust into a small drum of water it will be as quiet as can be.Just under the surface will do nicely. The real trick is to make as near silent as possible, then you may get away with using it when and where you wish.
Quiet should be the main aim of the game.
It poses some interesting challenges, but nonetheless achievable with some ingenuity.
Is that Gen Set for sale? how many hours has it done? Rick
My Briggs and Stratton based lawn mower needs the blade as it acts as a flywheel. I have kept this going for well over 20 years.
The air filter, if blocked can cause poor running.
The fuel tank where the carb fits uses the rubber diaphragm to act as a fuel pump, so be sure there are no perforations in it.
Check all airways etc.
With the drive on the bottom, this will make the generator rather top heavy, especially when you start it, so make sure it has a wide base.
With a standard car alternator, you run the risk of blowing the regulator when running it with no load, as the output voltage can be quite high.
A good old fashioned car dynamo doesn't need excitation, but doesn't give high outputs.
Good luck,

Cheers, what if I fit a small on board battery?
Yes that would help to sort it, you could try a small say fiesta type battery, as long as it can take a charge, it should work.
But be aware, when working near batteries that are charging or discharging, there is a plume of hydrogen and oxygen mixed in a ready to explode blend, just waiting for the smallest spark.
Which could be from even jump leads.
This is the reason why they say when jump starting a car, red lead to battery, earth to engine, so as not to produce a spark near to the battery.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Rustic
