any old pc is simply NOT comparable to xbox 360 or PS3, thats crap. if you want to match it, or better it, its gonna cost way more than the consoles, and thats how it has always been. It isnt neccessarily a bad thing, having to upgrade your pc, but to me its a pointless argument claiming the xbox 360 is crap graphics, thats just wrong. And besides, its pretty much a custom PC as it is anyway! and a £29.99 graphics card simply is not powerful enough to match a 360, thats wrong, and i know because i have one in my PC and it cant even managed decent shading, yes it has hdmi, but so does my xbox!
i do
ok this is where i do know what i am talking about used to work for sony fixing the ps3 (one of the reasons i hate the ps3)
right the ps3 is a geforce 7900GT clocked to 550MHz
the xbox is a different kettle of fish tho but the card is made by ati and is is some where arround the ball park of about HD2900 series, but probably closer to the X1900.
both consoles are only capable of producing 720p but it is upscaled to 1080p,
both systems are built to cost and considering they are built to play games they dont half overheat and cause them selves problems with boards warping
both the gfx cards are behind the hd4650 as that is a dx11 as opposed to the dx9 consoles
both systems are so far behind that most developers are being held back
now in regards to the developers making games just for consoles :lol take a look at the most recent releases and other than the crap like the xbox and ps3 exclusives such as gears of war or that crap that took sony 5 years to make and it was still crap gran tourismo 5 have you not notices that the exclusives arent even original titles :lol:lol:augie:augie
did you know that all games are created on a pc :thumb2
the only games that are ported to the pc are the ones that are just generic crap like modern warfare and call of duty
take games from bioware they were released to console as a port from the pc, same with battlefield, and the problem is it shows
their is a reason y companies release on the console and then on the pc, take fable 3 it got released on the xbox in october but it is still in the workshop today for the pc release, the reason behind this is the fact that microsoft wanted the console money first and then release the pc and get the pc money
it has shown that the pc is in a very good standing last year with the release of sale records from places like steam
any pc with a separate gfx card released since 2008 has a higher spec than an xbox and ps3 the ones with onboard gfx cards are not suitable.
i can tell you now that the hd4650 is a better gpu than any console has and that is the low end of the market (high-street cost is closer to £100)
overal the core2duo run's rings around both processors at most things apart from one or 2
For movie decoding, for example, I think everyone knows the Cell can outrun pretty much anything. For heavily multithreaded (and floating-point intensive) code, the 360's CPU will also become quite powerful, and leave the Core 2 in the dust.
but at everything else the core2 win's hands down and that is including games
new console for the xbox is what about £150 all in so for that sort of cash you can have a very good system with a half decent size hdd, remove the tv/monitor out of the equation as you would need that for the consoles anyway and as they will use the same unit dont figure in the argument
all those that have a tv attached to the pc see what the max screen res is your pc can put out and see if the tv can handle it
Hmm I know you say you worked for Sony mate and this isnt a pop at you. But from what I read the PS3 is being held back by developers, not the other way around. The ONLY reason the PS3 is not at its full potential is because the developers STILL after all these years cannot correctly code for the PS3.
absolutely. I dont believe the hardware is holding anyone back, including the 360, the hardware in both systems even now is very good, and very different to a pc spec, thats why these consoles, 6 years on are still extremely good. If you were to take a "gaming" pc from 6 years ago, and try play for example Battlefield on it, sorry, it would be shite. :lol
Crytek is known for its ultra-graphical title, Crysis which takes a super computer to run at max. The studio put the PC on a pedestal in the past declaring that the company would remain largely a PC developer.
Despite shifting most of its development efforts onto consoles, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli still believes that consoles are holding PC video games back. Currently Crytek is working on developing Crysis 2 for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. In addition Crytek has signed an agreement with Microsoft to work on an Xbox 360 game titled Kingdoms.
In an interview with Edge [via CVG], Yerli indicated that consoles are limiting the developer’s “creative expression.”
Yerli states:
"PC is easily a generation ahead right now. With 360 and PS3, we believe the quality of the games beyond Crysis 2 and other CryEngine developments will be pretty much limited to what their creative expressions is, what the content is. You won’t be able to squeeze more juice from these rocks."
they seem to be preparing for some sort of windows integration or standardisation on the xbox, the new dashboard is very "mobile 7", so it will be interesting to see how its all going to tie-in with Microsoft style. Ive heard that on the Mobile 7 phones, you can play xbox games....? not sure how true that is or how possible, and i assume itll be original xbox titles (not 360), still, interesting ideas.
PS3's problem is Sony. Sony are just a huge big cock of a corporation without any interest in the people it sells to lol, the ps3 would have done so much better if it had been made by Nintendo or even Microsoft, the hardware is fantastic, but it is let down by Sony. if they get their heads out of their arses, the PS3 could end up with a huge surge in popularity, but i think its too late now, for any current console.
altho onlive is going to cause some problems for the consoles when they have the costing side sorted
I find actually being alive and interacting with actual mates in an actual pub without paying an actual subscription fee IS ACTUALLY BETTER:clap:clap
