Ok, ive recently bought a Terrano and people have mentioned Veggie oil.

Ive seen about Bosch pumps and MAFs being the ones that can run veg oil?

Basically, whats the deal with what is SAFE to run?

I dont want to break it!!

Looking at your nice truck i would steer well clear i get people all the time looking for fuel pumps knackered by running alternative fuels. To save 35p per litre i cant see it being worth the risk

I think the problems come from people using WVO and dodgey SVO like the soya based ones with E9000 in it :doh
Good SVO like Rapeseed oil is fine , as is a GOOD quality BIO diesel. In fact I've been on bio neat for years now and have run neat SVO when we've run out of bio :clap Cheap as chips :lol Currently at 80p a litre for bio I make that a saving of 60p :naughty Have it

After makeitfit EMPTYED my local tesco i took the plunge..

Been runnung upto 100% svo from bookers

Now running about 50/50 as getting cold.

So must say thanos pete, saved loads of cash..

I must admit I took a lot of convincing, I was on the forum for over a year, and kept reading every post that mentioned it, before taking a tentative plunge... I am not a brave as most, and keep the mix low. I run my tank from full to empty, so when it is time to fill up, I pop to the station, stick either 45 or 50 litres of Diesel in, then come back home, and stick either 20, or 25 litres of veg oil in.

Basically, we buy the 20litre veg oil from Costco, and put that in, but if we see any of the 5litre bottles on special offer, then I use one of those as well, and up the mix.

Not got any braver than that, but I do like the way the car runs on the Veg mix.

Thanks for your (mixed) opinions.

So, whats Bio, SVO and WVO?? Pros/ cons of each?

I think id maybe try 50/50 if that was safe enough, maybe 100% is askind a bit much..!

Best places to get them?

Ah sorry, WVO is waste veg oil, like old chip shop shite = avoid. OR spend lots of time filtering your own out the back  eeuw
SVO is straight vegetable oil like Rapeseed , not mxed with anything. Just as you'd buy from Tesco or Booker etc, BUT get the ones that aren't mixed with E900 . It's a silicone anti foaming agent and apparently gums up your innards
BIO, my favourite, is harder to come by but is a direct replacement for diesel. It's not temp dependant and so doesn't need mixing with diesel in the winter. Therefore best value .
We buy it in 1000 litre IBCs about 80p a litre :D No heating, no mixing, no worries :thumbs Oh and a much quieter engine

Thanks for that. So ive just done a search for BioDiesel near me and im presuming its basically at some fuel stations bought same as youd buy normal diesel? What kind of price is it at forecourts then? Probably not that cheap im guessing..

So, unless i buy Bio in bulk (which i wont be doing), id be best mixing straight veg oil at a max of 50/50 making sure it doesnt contain E900? I presume E900 will be on some kind of ingredients on the label?

:thumb2

Yerp BIO in forecourts is just EU directive 90% ish diesel with a bit of rapseed added or something. It's sold at the usual rip off price 1.40 or whatever
Bio we get is recycled wvo cleaned, dried, ethanoled and loverly hence it's cheapness at 80p our way.
So yes get SVO and mix with diesel. You can easily go 75/25 :)
E900 will be listed on ingrediants and usually the 1st one. Avoid :(

Quality, i will 100% be giving it a bash.

Should i change fuel filter more often?

I take it the kits people use with pre-heaters is for WVO and also running 100% in cold weather?

It's worth doing the filter after a few tank fulls :thumbs
Heater kits are good for SVO too, same issues as wvo , gloopy in the cold. Heaters tend to run off the cooling system so they too have a down side in that it takes a while for the heater to heat up. There are some kits that have a glo plug in them too.
I have never bothered. On veggie , cold start is the issue, so good glo plugs and a little patience is good. OR go for a higher mix of diesel and worry not.
Try it and enjoy ;)

140:eek::eek: I'll stick to my 134.9 derv thanks :augie have used veg before didn't like the slight power drop tho:doh

There shouldn't be a discernible difference after start up, but then mine's hardly std :naughty

Fuel heaters are awaste of time...

Oh yes iv got one... but works great but late

I'm going to throw a spanner in the works now and fight the corner of E900 and E990, I've been running my car on 100% SVO or 100% WVO for the past 10 months with no issues apart from not being able to start it one morning because it was so so cold and I think it had thickened up and wouldn't fire.

My WVO comes from a guy who empties and cleans industrial fryers for a living (schools, colleges, universities, workplace canteens) etc, all his fryers filter down to 5 microns anyway so when I get the waste off him its nice and clean however I do get some grease at the bottom probs 1 litres worth so I sit the bottles on the floor for a few days and let it sediment at the bottom, then I drill in just above the level and tap it off into 10 litre 1 micron filter socks, that goes into a 72 litre drum underneath which when full gets heated to 80 degrees to get any water out thats left, tap that off into 5 litre containers and then pour it straight in the tank with a few capfulls of VeggieBoost and if I know it's going to be dead cold maybe 10 litres of petrol to thin it out :D

At the moment I'm using KTC Vegetable Oil in the silver and blue 20 litre drums, £16.99 for 20 litres that contains E990 anti foaming agent, the Tesco stuff is good from the world foods aisle which is forver on offer at 2 for £10 which is a slightly less better deal at £1 a litre

Agreed , well filtered wvo is fine as you are doing it. However so many people use 5 micron filtered wvo as is including the water and any other residues.
As for E900, that is the one component that has been proved to "gum up" the innards over time. I didn't pay much attention to the report as I'm happy on my bio, but it will happen. I guess it's down to how many miles you do at what temp etc anyway. So lots of short journeys will be bad :nenau
You're also very fortunate to have a good source of good wvo :thumbs

Is there any way of chemically removing the E990 anti foaming agent? Though I seriously doubt we have any petrochemists on here I'm hoping someone will know lol

You don't happen to have a link to the report do you? I wouldn't mind a read of that

Most of my journeys apart from too and from work are quite long so I don't think im in much danger of gumming stuff up, the WVO I pick up goes straight back into the container it came out of once it's been cleaned out so I know exactly what's in it, that's also KTC Veg but in the 15 litre plastic cubies, the WVO runs the same as the SVO and I pay 30p a litre for it so very very cheap

wvo

i got my t2 in jan last year and after a lot of research i introduced it to wvo,now i am a many years wvo user so i know what i am doing.
had the usual filter probs but was prepared to replace at the roadside etc.
after a lot of holding back loss of power i finally have it sorted.
i put a full length of 10mm fuel pipe from the tank to pump.
i took out the factory fuel primer and filter.
i put a large in line fuel filter with a none return valve.
i took out the swirl chamber from the tank pick up pipe.
i put an in line lift pump.
i process my wvo at home and carry extra if i am doing a long journey.
all summer i ran at 80wvo/derv/rug mix.as its getting colder i will run it at 50/50.
i pay 12.5p a ltr for my wvo and get more than i can use.
i have a round i made up after years of wvo collecting and have a ea licence to collect sell trade store up to 5000ltrs of the stuff.
i go down to 1mic but it is slow in -degrees.
i only gravity mine and do it at the ambient temp i want to use it.
since jan i have covered 6000 mls on my mixes but not without teething problems.
i have saved a packet on fuel though.
