Àuto Trans Dipstick

Hi folks,

is it possible to re-locate the Auto trans dipstick that stuffed down the back of the block and firewall.

to me it seems like a copper extension pipe to the OE pipe and extend the dip stick to suit?

Thoughts?

For how often you need to check it not sure why you would want to move it?

It is a challenge checking the level but I'd not go to the effort of moving it. Maybe extend the handle somehow :nenau

Maybe an extension and a mitsubishi pajero 2.8 auto dipstick they are long as hell and right next to the head.

I tend to check mine regularly, probably twice a month.
I want to move it for ease of use.

yes its certainly a "nice to have" modification, i feel its a small task to bring more joy to servicing and preventative maintenance :thumb2 .

Not sure why you check it that often as ATF levels do not drop with mileage covered - they don't use /burn it off as such.

In the olden days when you had vacuum controlled kick downs with a rubber diaphragm that when it perished sucked out the ATF it was a good idea to keep an eye on ATF levels but these days I would say once a year is probably too often. Our last three automatics did not even have a dipstick fitted just a tube with a cap sealed with a tag top lock!

Mercs have no dipstick either unless its over 20 years old. They do not even have a filler plug!

Our 55 plate BMW 3 series had no dipstick or dipstick tube. The ATF fill was for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Only argument I can see for more regular ATF checks is if you are driving through Fords regularly and want to check for water contamination.

But if you cant sleep at night go for the tube move !!

One of the beaches i go fishing has 13 river crossings all 1m high on a good day, and after the rivers i drive through at least two with brackish water lagoons and then down on to about 10 miles of soft volcanic sand, and that's just on a Sunday afternoon out, hence the overkill on my part.

its just a preventative measure which i would like to make easier.

Sounds a great splash through the water - I would be checking my fluid regularly in your circumstances. You probably know anyway but water in ATF turns the fluid from a nice bright Pink to a Light Grey.

Sounds like you need a DUKW !!

I used to check my ATF weekly ( yes I know im strange ) but after my experiences I became a bit paranoid
