FUEL : Diesel / City Diesel / Bio Diesel / Sun Flower Oil / Vegetable Oil / Waste Oil

Thanks for the info. I guessed that kerosene would work ok but not sure of potential long term problems with lubrication of pump, etc. Had thought of farm diesel, but it is dyed and therefore may leave contamination/discolouring if the truck was ever to go back to highway use. Mike. P

    damp issue

Damp in caravans. Just spent £350 having new inner wall panel fitted in wash area of my van,and repairs to the sidewall structure. All this was down to water getting in behind the awning rail. Have since removed that section of rail, filled the gap with good quality sealant and re-fitted rail...

    Terrano 3.0

Hello Gasman. What do you expect from a re-map in terms of performance/mpg.? I have a 3.0 ltr auto that I am very pleased with in most respects ,and I achieve around 21/22mpg towing everthing but kitchen sink. General use gives an mpg that ranges between 25,and 28,long runs can be up to 33mpg...

    20k car

20kcar Am now wrestling with a similar dilemna, I need to move from two cars to a single vehicle when I retire in July. Wife has a Peugeot 207,and I have a 3.0 autobox Terrano, and we tow a 1.6 tonne laden caravan. Terrano is too expensive to travel all the miles we do visiting kids and...

Not so scared up uphill, but downhill?

Could'nt agree more with that comment. Many years ago before the M6 replaced the notorious Shap Fell route.I was returning home from Edinburgh to our Depot in Kendal at around 2am.with an ERF tractor and trailer fully freighted to 32 tons by way of 100x 36 barrels of Scotch bitter! Deep snow on...

I tow a Compass Rallye 534. Just back from a 5xweek trip to Spain. Loaded to the gunnels, and averaging 21mpg. Would probably have done better if we didnt take so much gear with us.

    Gremlin! Seek & eliminate!

Hello ChefClay This sounds like a problem I had earlier this year. It turned out to be a broken plastic "lug" in the end of the ignition switch barrel.I used a auto lock company to sort it. But it cost me £60. When I saw the part and the minimum work required it seemed like money I could have...

    x trail

I owned an Xtrail for about 18months 2004/5. This was a 112 bhp D.I. rather than the 136 Dci. Managed about 35k miles, lots of them towing 1600kgs with no faults/problems. Daughter has had a DI from new which now has 140k miles with no major probs at all ,and still running very sweetly. The...

I need to talk to those that know

Hello Fridayman. Why not try a big old Merc diesel estate. Not a 4x4 but will go there for half the price and great reliability as well. No probs with repairs as half the world use them as taxis! Just an alternative view, but my old 220 cdi estate with 214,000 miles on the clock would get there...

    Off roading on holiday

Off road in Cyprus Hello Daved. Seeing those pics reminds me of the time some 15 years ago that the missus and I hired a Suziki Grand Vitara when we were on the jolly hols in Pretarus. Went up into the Trudos mountains in shorts and T.shirts. Got to the top and bloody nearly froze to death...

Hello Lacroupade. Cannot help but respond to defend my old W Reg.Merc 220 cdi estate. My last company car which I bought at a knockdown price when I took early retirement-or VR in 2003. It now has 215k miles on the clock, dragged my caravan 1.6 tons + to Spain and back 5 times, and twice to mid...

    Tomorrow

The old saying .cometh the hour come the man, should hold true, but I think that any move to a unity government would still need a silver bullet and stake in the heart to rid ourselves of the sitting P.M.-Personally the silver bullet is too good for him, given that had we had more helicopters in...
