Off roading on holiday

Just got back from Cyprus in the early hours of this morning. My missus loves sitting on the sun beds, I like to be a bit more active. Much to my suprise she agreed to a spot of off road sightseeing, absolutely fantastic (and no mud )

The lines up the hills you can see are actually bulldozed firebreaks not roads so we used those rather than the roads to get around the Troodos mountains for a day.

With one very satisfied customer making the obligatory pose :naughty shame it was a landy but hey, it did brill.

some amazing views but the colour of the water in this flooded quarry gets the prize for me :thumb2

hi Daved , glad you enjoyed your trip to Cyprus, we hired a Terrano when we were there and I bought mine when we returned, spent my national service there during the troubles in the fifties, much nicer place now except its now partitioned with the Turks. In the New Forest
to day after sailing over from the Isle of Wight this morning, we were there sight seeing and to see the round the island yacht race and the round the island cycle race which our son was taking part. Been away in our caravan for the last six weeks and the weather as been wonderful, just a couple of wet mornings but sun nearly every day. regards bri

Off road in Cyprus

Hello Daved.
Seeing those pics reminds me of the time some 15 years ago that the missus and I hired a Suziki Grand Vitara when we were on the jolly hols in Pretarus. Went up into the Trudos mountains in shorts and T.shirts. Got to the top and bloody nearly froze to death. Tried some of those fire breaks to get down a bit quicker. Chickened out when it started to rain,but in truth the little Suziki was fairly useful.
Would have enjoyed the whole experience more if the side curtains had been on! This was end of October and starting to cool down a bit.

Bri, are those red number plates for hire vehicles, couldnt work it out when I thought about it, forgot the rest of the time

I must admit the place has me hooked. The missus has been several times, my first visit and loved it. Will definitely be returning.

A lot of the pics I took were near the monastery and cave where Afxentiou died, probably during your time there? I love finding out about the local history and Cyprus is one interesting place for that.

Tried some of those fire breaks to get down a bit quicker.

Mike , the driver we had fortunately knew the area very well and took us some great routes. I know where youre coming from though, we went over a few crests and slopes rather errrrr.............briskly

The honest answer is I cant remember :doh it was about half way up into the mountains, it was down a track but not too bad. The fire break/track you can see on the hill in the distance is where we were heading.

great pictures, looks a beautiful country. Never been myself, im not very well travelled but its certainly somewhere I hope to visit in the future.
