Advice needed on surge protectors and UPS

Thanks to all for the info. Particularly edgerton and solarman. I like your simplicity Rick! Edgerton can I ask an update? A lot of the units on ebay say "Has the USB connection allowing communication to modern operating systems for auto shutdown and information gathering." What is the...

Advice needed on surge protectors and UPS

IT buffs - advice please? Power outages and lightening surges are not unusual in our neck of the woods so I'd like to install an interruptible power supply/surge protector. However I know naff all about them or what to go for. I need to run a 24" iMac and a Mac Book Pro laptop, as well as a WiFi...

Any 'Sparks' out there - advice please

Many thanks to PLANK and glanrichbex for your interest and practical information. The project is on hold at present, too many others on the list and this one is not at the top. However when it does come to the surface glanrichbex's advice will be very useful but I'll need to consult again to...

    Caravan Carpet Cleaning, help needed

Hi Plank I find that neat acetone dissolves most adhesive residue without affecting the underlying surface IF you lift it quick enough with a clean paper towel but beware of leaving it too long as it may affect the underlying carpet structure! Bon chance! CL

Well done Fabs! If anyone needs to replace a 'box its very good info and could avoid mistakenly buying a 'bargain'. Just out of interest, in your shots, which is which? Rgds CL

    Oil light has come on

Hi again Firebobby Here's a cut & paste I saved from a previous thread: "Faulty oil pressure sensor common on 3ltr T2 The low is by the oil filter the High Pressure is the other side of the engine. The Black sensor is the low pressure unit. The Green or Yellow sensor is the high pressure unit...

    Satnav in France

Hi Firebobby I live in France and drive locally and on autoroutes regularly, in my French car, as does my son-in-law in his British registered car. Neither of us have been stopped by the police and asked to display the functions of our (British) sat-navs. IMHO the average Gendarme is not aware...

    Had my MOT today

Can't be that bad then? A car mechanic friend of mine had a sign in his workshop door: Oh Dear = 25 quid Oh Dear Oh Dear = 50 quid Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear = 75 quid Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear = negotiable. Mid you that was a long time ago! Hope all is well at Chez PLANK Rgds CL

Help :( passenger window for a lwb T2!

Re the second set of keys- there are oodles of places where you can secrete the spare key externally on the T2 and let's face it there's no point in it being at home when you're hundreds of miles away. Even if you resort to buying one of the magnetic key boxes to stow under the car, anything is...

    Odd noise!

Hi Nik Perhaps the clutch release bearing may be the cause of your strange noise. I think that it has a spring which simply keeps it in place on the clutch release lever and prevents it from rattling and thereby causing the noise you describe. They sometimes break and cease to have their...

    Any Gearbox Gurus???

Try this guy. [email protected] Although he's in France (as I am) he has a good UK source. He specialises in 4x4 gearbox reconditioning/exchange. He got me one shipped from his source in the UK to France, 2 years ago for 750 quid plus my duff box. Of course fitting was extra. Rgds CL

Thanks Rick for the down to earth advice - a blinding glimpse of the bloody obvious - ceramic bits in the chamber - no thanks! I think I'll go for metal ones. Cheers CL

    Noisy gearbox

This is the guy I got mine from - [email protected]. He lives near me in France but has a UK reconditioning/exchange source and imported one to France for me. Maybe cheaper for him to supply direct in the UK? Rgds CL

    Metal/ceramic glow plugs?

    Noisy gearbox

Had this failed gearbox experience twice with T2s, it's a common fault. First time I replaced the gearbox on my '96 2.7 with a reconditioned one. Box cost 750 quid and another 300 to swap them. Second time the duff box was re-built by the Nissan main dealer (and guaranteed) before I bought my...

Glow plugs for '03 three litre.

Glow plug decision time Searching for new glow plugs to buy for my '03 3ltr T2 and there appears to be either ceramic or metal alternative. There doesn't appear to be a huge price difference in the NGK brand. Anyone know/can recommend the advantages/disadvantages of each? Rgds CL
