    Braking system, what type pads?

I'm going to need to replace brake pads soon, so popped into my local Halfrauds to see what they had. They list 2 types of pad, one for a Lucas system and one for another braking system I've not heard off - sounds Japanese in origin. I've had a quick look under the bonnet but can't see anything...

    what size tyres?

Ok, standard 235/75 R15's are equivalent (near as dammit) to a 29x9.50 R15, but becuase tyres vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, some measure bigger than others. What I'll say about the Kumho AT's & the MT's I have now, they are quite a narrow tyre for the measurement, with a rounder...

    Fitting Intercooler to a 1996 2.7TD

Sharkie had a front mounted intercooler made up, and removed the condensor unit for his AC to allow the intercooler to fit. I'm not sure if he needed to get any changes done to ECU or engine settings though.

    K&N air filter

57's just remove all of the restriction from the airbox & associated piping. Yes, bigger filter results in more surface area, but it is the open nature of an induction kit that ultimately results in greater airflow. Plus more noise! & lots of it!

    K&N air filter

Surely it isn't surface area that is the issue with airflow, but with how resistant to airflow the materials used in the filter are? The limits on a filter will be down to the induction system either side of the filter. Removing an air filter completely from an airbox will improve airflow...

    Removing the Bumpers

Is there any access to the top of the fuel tank from any access panels in the boot/rear seat area? Just might be possible to get the access you need that way. I know some cars have this facility, not sure about ours though.

    al-ko tow hitch

NArrower neck on the Alko hitch, to allow articulation of the coupling. The standard fat neck tow balls causes problems. Swan neck towbars are fine for an alko hitch.

    K&N air filter

For the 2.7TDi they are no longer made, they are often seen on E-bay as people sell vehicles and remove them. They are a 5 minute job to fit, simply using exisiting plugs in the loom to link into. Prices vary, some members on here have got really good bargains, mine was £160, which wasn't too...

    Headlamp beam converter.

Spot on Bri, they don't use a handed beam as we do, we need the beam convertors becuase otherwise there is a big portion of our beam going left & directly towards oncoming traffic! I also understand that army vehicles come with these flat lenses fitted. On my 2001 (in response to the original...

    K&N air filter

I fitted one after I fitted the PSI Powerbox; I'd found the chip was causing a lot of black smoke, so figured a better filter may help. Can't say I noticed any improvement in power or torque, but then I'd already fitted the chip. Little bit of induction noise, but does the job. I've used them on...

    X-trail sat nav

Wifey has just bought a 2006 Columbia, I've got a feeling that the wiring harness may be different - she had a bluetooth handsfree installed, that needed a different wiring loom to cope with the sat nav. I suppose if the price is right from the breakers you could get the unit, DVD drive and as...

Only coolant top up I've had to do was when the thermostat housing warped and leaked slightly.

    M.O.T!!!

Mine due mid-march, put it in through the local garage so it gets a pre MOT service. Not failed an MOT yet, but has often had remedial work done pre MOT test as part of the service.

    Tyre Pressures

HB has a point about tyre pressures and the police, but the time that they would check them is after any incident where incoorect inflation could have contributed - so it is more of an acident investigation issue. As far as towing, certainly for caravan tyres incorrect inflation (usuallu under...

Anyone out there do some very simple metal fabrications?

No, I posted my request when I thought I was getting some roof rails off ebay, but when they've arrived they are just bog standard clamp on roof bars    so I'm not moving on with this just yet. Still trying to get the seller (MM Ford, Aberystwyth) to acknowledge that...

    anyone driven to Chamonix, France?

I've seen these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEWAG-Brenta-c-4x4-Snow-Chains_W0QQitemZ150210572674QQihZ005QQcategoryZ9885QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem on the bay, Pewag is a very good brand of snow chain. Don't know if they'll fit your wagon though?

what is it with landrover owners

Not a problem, just that we do have some LR owners on here, and in the past threads have bene locked to prevent things getting too personal (maybe).

what is it with landrover owners

Wouldn't say it was currently anti LR, this thread, certainly started that way though!

FAO those that have avm manual locking hubs.

Never underestimate a Lada, they are stupidly able off road, while being pretty useless on road. Its reliability that the oldr ones didn't have.
