    Manual Freewheel Hubs

I know what you mean but I'm not a fan of "auto" anything and I don't like the delay in re-engaging if you have to back-up. I'll just lock them if I think I might need 4wd and take the small penalty in fuel. If all goes well at the weekend I may have a pair of only slightly used auto hubs for...

    Manual Freewheel Hubs

A word of warning if you plan to install a set of manual freewheel hubs as supplied by Milners. Different design to the hubs demonstrated in the workshop link. No instructions are included which was a bit of a problem as fitting requires the circlip to be relocated to the outer groove on the...

    Corroded front cross member help

Yes, it's easy enough to remove the air con rad but be aware that the fluid will come out as a gas at high pressure which can freeze burn  so slacken one fitting a little and let the gas escape slowly. Peter

Another success thanks to the forum

I blanked mine by putting a suitable ball bearing under the coupling at the flex hose 3 way block. No problems. Peter

    Steering Idler

Looking though the Spanish (?) picture gallery I was struck by the number of mods shown for the steering idler so I thought 'I know that the Terrano steering is not the best but it can't be that bad' Well, I inspected the idler more closely than I had before and realized that it is a very poor...

Home Brewed Snorkel - My way

Tropical rain forest up here, well rain forest anyway, too darn cold for tropical. My garden actually, and about 1/2 an acre more of rampant growth. Peter

Home Brewed Snorkel - My way

Few more pictures. The rust on the wing is too bad for my meager skills so it's another bodge job, get rid of the flakey stuff and gung up well with waxoyl/underseal. I need two new wings but that's unlikely so the scrapyard is my next stop. I managed to cut a bit too much off the corner for the...

Home Brewed Snorkel - My way

Just putting the finishing touches to my home brewed snorkel. I'm still looking for a suitable elbow for the top but the jaunty angle on the mushroom top will do for now. Couple of pictures. Wing back on tomorrow after fixing the rust:eek:

    Arch problem MOT

If the hole is within 30cm of seat belt mounts, steering mounts, seat mounts, a mounting point of any part of the brake system or suspension it will fail. If it isn't then it should pass. However it's all down to the opinion of the tester on the day. you can see the official MOT manuals here...

    Split hoses and rusted pipes!

Sorry, that should be "revving the engine off load"

    Split hoses and rusted pipes!

Yes it should move, it's the waste gate for the turbo but can be hard to move by hand. Disconnect the rod and the arm bit on the manifold should move freely. Apply a bit of suck to the other bit will prove the diaphram is good or not but it needs a good bit of vacuum to actually move it and...

    Split hoses and rusted pipes!

You really will have to sort out the air in the fuel line problem before trying other things. Diesel pumps rely on hydraulic pressure to open the injectors and even the smallest amount of air will prevent the injectors from opening properly. Peter

    Front body cross member rotten.

I made up the new piece myself, about a meter of 80x40x4 box section with brackets for the rad and cut outs for the air-con rad. Angle welded at each end and bolted though the body mount brackets, plenty of metal there and not much at the original mounting point. I bolted it because I'm not much...

    Rocksliders/external cage

I get mine from the local steel stockholder, in my case it's http://www.bmsteel.co.uk/ but you're sure to have one something like it close. Google or yellow pages.

Question about bumpers and winch mounts

I'm thinking of making up a new bumper but looking at pictures of the various replacement types, with and without winch mounts, I can't see how the bumper is mounted. Do they use the original bumper mounts on the chassis and, if so, have they proved strong enough for winching? If not how are...

    Front body cross member rotten.

The bumper and backing are held on by two bolt either side located under the wings, towards the front behind the rubber skirt. See pictures. You need to remove and unplug the signal lamps and then it's a straight pull forward. Peter Skirt Bolts
