I finally spoke to Issac at 4WD Systems this morning. Having described my problem to him he says that if it unlocks OK when it's not in gear and drives OK when the hubs are locked but the box in 2wd then all is OK. :D:D:D He said that sometimes it can be very hard to get it to unlock 'dry'...

I'm going to call at about 7 in the morning, it will be about 3.30 where they are and it means I don't have to stay up late and have a good nights sleep.

You can say that again, if I didn't have such a cheery sunny personality I could get really depressed and it's blowing a gale and pouring down here NW Wales. Spring Mmmmmm? Peter

Exactly according to the instructions, springs and pins in, two drills/feelers and an average reading. I've just refitted and tried again and get the same results as before. With the gearbox engaged I get no unlock, with gearbox disengaged I get perfect unlock in all parts of the test even...

This Lokka is driving me nuts, Worse yet, I'm driving my dearly beloved nuts as well. I now have about 158 thou on the critical gap, well within spec, however I cannot get it to unlock correctly as per the instructions  I'm going to ring 4WD Systems in Oz for advice, when...

It's still in pieces while I get the washers reduced some more although I may have to wait until the new ones arrive and I get them ground to size. The original ones are a bit distorted now after they were ground. Peter

I have a wife who used to me making strange requests for help and I did the test a per the fitting sheets. With the gearbox engaged it refused to unlock in either direction however with the gearbox in neutral it seemed to unlock ok. They make the point that all should be as per the test so I...

Once you've sorted the bolts on the front crossmember its pretty quick, as long as you don't have a sump guard to remove as well. Bit of a fiddle getting the rear crossmember back in place, it's about 3/4 inch wider than the torsion bars and has to go in one end first. It is heavy though, I have...

Well, it’s been busy day. The diff has been in and is now out again. Got the whole thing back together this morning and tried the required tests. Not good  The Lokka won't unlock as it should although it did try a couple of times. Maybe 144 thou is just not good enough, I thought, so...

I use Iron, a derivative of Chrome, and it's fine. Maybe some setting you have in yours. The gap was pretty much the same after torquing down and I bench tested again after it was all back together, fingers crossed it tests ok on the car. I've been trying to work out if a smaller gap is better...

I was afraid that might be the case. Just checked my link, the first one, (the second one I gave is rubbish) and it seems to work fine for me. very handy site as it list just about all the part numbers and give exploded views. Not just Terranos but all Nissans. The good news is that I managed...

Rick. Try www.nissan4u.com and work though to your vehicle. The part number I have is correct, just spoken to local dealer but it's a non stock non return item and could take several weeks to come. Ordered a pair anyway but I will try and get something sorted with what I've got as well. Peter

I think a tenner might be a bit optimistic to make a one off pair but getting mine turned or surfaced ground locally is a definite possibility. I haven't had a word with my local dealers yet so it maybe easier than I think to solve. Peter

Rick I've just checked the catalogue again and it only shows thrusts washers going down to 0.75mm. However there are bearing shims which go much thinner, down to .2mm. Might be an idea to double check they have the right part. See here, item 49...

Rick Don't suppose you have part numbers do you, the ones I found listed went down to .75 mm which is about 30 thou and the thickest is shown as .96 mm -about 38 thou which is what I have in mine. Peter

I've been having a go at fitting mine today and I've come up against the same problem with the thrust washers as Rick.:doh I don't have a lathe or the required skills even if I did have one so it's off to the Nissan dealer for me. I don't know of a co-operative dealer in this neck of the...

The wheel bearings are taper roller and independent of the driveshaft/cv. The wheel end of the cv is supported by the hub and a needle roller bearing. You would need the block the hole left by the shaft though to prevent bits and pieces finding their way into the bearings. Peter

As long as you ensure the wheel locks are disengaged and the drive shafts are properly supported or removed altogether I can't see any reason why you couldn't. I don't plan to try except to make room for other things if I need to. I have other means of transport at my disposal. Peter
