There is a way of testing the MAP sensor in the dealer workshop manual. Basically - leave the sensor connected to the wiring harness, connect it to a hand pump, raise pressure in stages whilst measuring output volts on the MAP sensor's centre pin. I *have* verified that it is OK at...
The current MAP sensor (new, genuine Nissan) is only a couple of months old. Output is 2.7V at atmospheric - so probably not faulty. The original (fitted when new) MAP sensor output at atmospheric is 5.6 V, so it was definitely faulty/out of spec. (see three posts back).
I don't have a...
I take that back. I'm not in the least bit confident. :-(
I've been around the same route again and have managed to generate the overboost/limp on a couple of occasions. One was a bit odd, because it occured at a boost pressure UNDER 20psi - don't know what to make of that. In both cases...
I need to do some more testing, but I think I might know the answer to that one!!! It's a definite maybe. :)
I've swapped the MAF and reinstalled the original Nissan OEM MAF (that one that was in the motor from new and has done about 40,000 miles) and have been for another drive. Boost...
I've now replaced the vacuum hose between the VNT control solenoid and the VNT actuator "just in case". I've also finished the installation of the boost gauge and had a drive around to see what is happening. I need, though, to be a bit more scientific and plan it properly. I've certainly learned...
It is (temporarily) teed into the hose between the VNT actuator and the VNT control solenoid.
Indeed so - and that is exactly what does happen. Didn't I explain that earlier in the thread?
That is exactly what I am in the process of installing - see my previous post. As the gauge is a dual...
A bit of a move forward on this. I have now installed a boost gauge (stepper motor, electronic type) in the cab and connected it to power and have run the signal cable into the engine bay. I have yet to connect the gauge sensor into the intake airstream - a job for tomorrow.
As the gauge is a...
I missed the moon last night - covered in mist, just a white blob. It's cloudy today, too :(
This is the only photo I've ever taken of the moon ...... handheld with a Pentax K200D camera and a (nearly) 50 year old Tamron 400mm f7.5 T2 mount lens.

It's a day or two since I visited this thread and I haven't looked at every page - so apologies if someone has already posted this and I missed it.
If the theme is music that moves you, then this must win it outright, no question. This video and the Car's "Drive" moved about 1500 million...
My motor must be different.
I can tell there is a grommet on the driver's side because a harness disappears into the small gap between the servo and the inner wing. You can't see the grommet or get your fingers to it. The harness reappears through the insulation to the right of throttle...
The mighty Bo Diddley ......... (stole the show at Expo 92 - felt sorry for BB King who had to come on after him)

I've still got more vinyl LPs than CDs - and, of late, they've had a lot more play-time too.
Time I bought a new needle for my gramaphone ........ :thumb2

Oldest, eh ...
Which counts as older, Billie Holiday on vinyl (April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) or Robert Johnson on CD (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938)??
It's possible I might have something even older - must go look

This overboost condition indicates a fault that needs fixing. It is NOT normal behaviour. You will probably find that the ECU has stored a fault code 0905 when it happens.
It is sometimes related to a failing MAF sensor (mass air flow), which if ignored can cause the engine to destroy itself...
I'm still waiting for a pillar pod, so haven't made any progress yet on fitting the boost gauge.
I've had a look around in the engine bay and can't see any obvious way to get cables through the bulkhead. I've seen some stuff about there being a grommet somewhere that can be used, but...
