    Power steering grinding noises

It started with a slight noise whilst turning sharply, then it made a grinding noise whilst turning not so sharply and whirring noise with the engine revs.:o Now it makes a grinding noise which I can feel through the steering wheel whilst turning normally into junctions.:eek:.... think I...

Think ..... when it meets air - plenty of that in the expansion bottle  Find a cure not treat the symptoms ...... it will come back to bite you :doh

    unknown constant elec. drain

Who would have thought we would have been talking about 4K TV nowadays with 2060P definition. If we look back there is 1080 720 625lines and 405lines. Can you imagine a television picture made up of 405 lines in a box as deep as the screen width? If you had suggested to a TV engineer back then...

    unknown constant elec. drain

A multimeter measuring current is O.K ....but if you had a momentary intermittent fault then you are going to have to be looking over the top of the multimeter to see it. The problem may come to light when the alarm activates after you've closed the bonnet and locked her up. A far easier method...

    Leak

It was when I removed the wipers and plastic cover on my old terrano that I discovered the tin worm had been busy and that was where the water was getting in :eek:

    Vibrations when steering

I put a new belt on as the old one was slipping but the new one slipped as well so I tightened it some more. I am a bit wary it is too tight now but doesn't slip but I get a vibration through to the steering wheel on abrupt turns at low speed.

    half the windows not working

If you take the card off the troublesome door, pull apart the connector to the window motor and connect a 12v bulb ( brake light bulb be fine ) across the terminals in the connector and operate the switch in the centre console - may be easier than taking the centre console apart.

    Brake Drum differences

Mine did this too except the noise only happened when I was reversing as the other end of the shoe was coming away.

    half the windows not working

The most common issue I found which produced the fault you've described is that the motor is stalled when the window is uppermost and sometimes cannot develop enough torque to unwind in the opposite direction to free itself so it remains jammed. To treat the symptoms but not cure ( which may...

    Vibrations when steering

O.K Fluid level is fine so as Rik says it looks like the pump is packing up :( Fitting it doesn't look too hard, is there a bleeding procedure or anything to look out for with these? Cheers Rich

    Vibrations when steering

Hi all, When turning the steering wheel whilst manoeuvring at very low speed, I get a vibration and whirring noise only whilst the steering wheel is being turned. I have also noticed a similar whirring noise at times, which seems to go up and down with the engine revs. ( similar to an...

    heater

Must step in here - My Terrano has developed an intermittent fault. One morning this week whilst driving into work I went to turn on my radio and it was completely dead:eek: then I looked down and saw my cigarette lighter wasn't powering my phone charger any more. Then I found my heater...

    No tail lights

I had this fault - Take out both the rear light clusters and check the pvc coating on the wires haven’t worn through by rubbing on the chassis. It causes the fuse to blow intermittently when you go over bumps in the road when the bare wires touch and ground on the chassis.

Rear Exhaust box for Terrano on R50 Chassis

Yes I'm afraid there are. There are also differences between the R20 made before and after 2002 where the centre box is different shape and the rear silencer box is omitted in the later models.

    Gearbox oil change

Excellent tips here, I actually use my drivers door handle to hold the funnel with a hose rammed into it sealed with duck tape. The hose goes under the car and into the filler hole on the side of the gearbox. I just add some more oil into the funnel when nearing empty as I walk back and fore...

    Wipers won't switch off

Given that both wipers are going all the time, I would say it's common to one fault ....... the stalk mechanism.

    Spotlights - Doing it right

FETS are Field Effect Transistors. They behave very similar to a transistor where a small voltage at the gate terminal will allow a large current to flow between the source and drain terminals. The advantage of using FETS is that when they conduct, they have incredibly low resistance so you get...

    Spotlights - Doing it right

Fets have virtually no voltage drop at all, they go down to 0.007ohm which is far better than a set of resistive mechanical contacts . No arcing, no back EMF, 100microamps to bias it instead of 0,5amp holding current using a coil. The gate feed resistor is not critical as its voltage control not...
