Cheers Rick, bad connections were the first thing I tried, the solenoid is a bit more challenging ...though I have done them before now ! ... the problem went away (for 3 years) for £50 ... in mid-winter,I might take that option again !! Thanks for the info TOSKA

Starter clattering & rattling ... 1998 2.7 Tdi Long w/b 3 years back/ about 20,000mls ago I used to get horible clattering noises on key turn,with no engine rotation .... sounded like a real bag of nails !! this would clear on 2nd or 3rd attempt & then start OK ... new battery/ fully charged...

Clutch Damper Pipe Correct ... a number of comments on here regards this pipe .... .. it took me AGES to find out where all that Clutch Fluid was going to !! ... dropping off the rusty end near the rear axle & getting lost in all the muck at the back !! NISSAN seem to have fitted this pipe...
