Loss of Drive - All Gears - Terrano 2

...Day 2... Tougher going today, but I have done the test recommended by Rick, and it seems to point to a clutch problem, which is what I am going to keep heading toward. Today I was able to remove the clutch slave cylinder, which caught me out nearly as it keeps involuntarily gently pushing...

Loss of Drive - All Gears - Terrano 2

Thanks for the feedback and words of encouragement. As soon as the hour is decent enough, I am going to get back at it, but I will put the gear levers back in and try the test above recommended by Rick. That said I guess changing the clutch around 100k miles is not a bad plan anyway. Regards Alan

So far it's been mostly just nuts and bolts, but I have taken a few pictures as well. Dropping the gearbox out is the bit that got me losing sleep! Regards Alan

Thanks for looking into that Rick. It's much appreciated, as is yours and everyone else's comments and advice do far. That said I hope you won't be offended that I have decided to have a go at the job myself, and I further hope that you and others will continue to feel able to help. Today was...

Loss of Drive - All Gears - Terrano 2

Back again... Whilst in Halfords they had both the tow pole and tow rope. I hope I have made the right choice buying a tow rope as I thought the pole looked a bit trumpery. The 4tonne rope was £24.99 the pole was £29.99! Anyway by way of an update I have now received another quote for the...

Loss of Drive - All Gears - Terrano 2

Thanks to all for the ongoing comments and input. I am going to Halfords tonight to buy a tow rope, and get it towed up onto my mother in laws driveway, which is sloping. Hopefully, a Subura Outback will be robust enough for the job. In the meantime, I have a call in with a 4 X 4 specialist...

Loss of Drive - All Gears - Terrano 2

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, and thank you Rick, for the offer of doing the work. I have just had a response from garage number three, who clearly didn't want the job and spoke of £1000 + to do it!!! (it's heavy/awkward/a pig of a job etc). That didn't include the bits...

I would willingly pay Rick to the job, but geography is not on my side (North Bristol), also I understand he is a very busy man as well. Regards Alan

Loss of Drive - All Gears - Terrano 2

Thanks Guys, Really quick replies, this forum is as great as it ever was, unfortunately, I only post with bad news now due to changes in work and time constraints. I have spoken to two different small workshops today, both of which do not want the job. One because he has no lift, and the...

Hi Everyone, For the first time since buying the truck in 2008 with 43000 miles, it has broken down (see image below :() On the way to work on Friday it started to behave a bit strangely when changing gear on the move and pulling away from a standstill. There seemed to be a slight hesitancy in...

Starting Issue & Smell of Fuel - Terrano 2.7Tdi Mk11

Hi, I can now confirm that I have completed the job, and the truck starts and runs much better now. I hope that the remaining steel fuel line, which was in much better condition than that around the wheel arch, will last until the vehicle is no longer serviceable. My only concern now is...

    Crossland Filters

My preference for filters has always been to fit FRAM. I once tried an eBay oil filter (in a money saving attempt), which was blue and had some Chinese writing on it. No matter how tight I tried to do it up, it continued to leak. Regards Alan

The joke is that they have a Phillips head on them as well. No chance after fifteen years of being in place. It's tempting to ignore it and rely on three bolts only, but I worry about water ingress into the boot floor. I think I'll follow your lead and use a good sized self tapping bolt...
