    Shudder and hum at 40mph

One of the front CV joints is a bit lumpy on hard lock. Think it is same side as whistle/screech. Also noisy and clunky clutch/gearbox. Don't think these are causing the current problem though. How would I check for bad propshaft?

    Shudder and hum at 40mph

Not manual hubs. Bit of a whistle or screech from front passenger side wheel when 4wd engaged though. Sound a bit like dry metal rubbing on dry metal. But have that with a while and hub is engaging and disengaging.

    Shudder and hum at 40mph

Terrano (2002-2003 manual transmission) has developed a very bad shudder in recent days. Does not seem to be wheel or steering related and there is nor real shake or vibration in the steering wheel. Don't think it is suspension or gearbox/ engine mounts. Don't think it is drive shaft or u-joint...

    Wheel balance

Had similar issue but would only happen at about 55 mph to about 60 mph. Badly worn universal join on rear propshaft was the cause. Was easy enough to check the universal joint by lying under the vehicle and shaking the propshaft and seeing movement at the joint. Not an expensive repair and...

Fluid leak / Leak off pipes?

I had similar leak for sometime before finding source. By the time it hit the ground it was black, probably running down the engine casings or cross members. Was difficult to find source as it only happened when motor was running. Took off cover on intercooler rad and with motor running could...

    What is this?

A fix where I don't have to fix anything. Excellent. :thumbs

    What is this?

Any idea why it would be disconnected and is it better to leave it disconnected or connect it back up?

    What is this?

Anyone tell me what this item I'm pointing to in the photo is? And anyone know why it would be disconnected at the bottom (and tied open or closed with a cable tie where it enters the engine casing under the intercooler rad).

Whirring noise-might be clutch or gearbox

Rustic, good thinking about the universal joints on prop shaft but they seem fine. The clunking sound seems different to prop shaft clunk from worn joints. AlexD333, will check the rubbers underneath the gearbox. Clunking sound might be related to them although the whirring more than likely...

    Back again.

To be honest I foolishly wasted two or three times the £10 trying to find and sort a fuel leak recently only to find out it was a split blanking pipe on the rear injector near the bulkhead. Actual fix cost me less than a £1 for piece of rubber fuel line after finding the reason for leak on here.

Whirring noise-might be clutch or gearbox

Thanks for replies. :thumb2 Rick, getting the gearbox out for a look would be more trouble than it's worth for the present especially when all is running fine. Might be able to find an experienced ear somewhere to have a listen. AlexD333, from what I have seen on other posts here layshaft...

Whirring noise-might be clutch or gearbox

Terrano has developed a whirring, ticking noise that has got a bit worse in recent weeks. Seems related to the clutch as it only happens when clutch is engaged. Noise goes as soon as enough pressure is put on clutch pedal to disengage clutch. Can hear it clearly when moving off and it gets...
