Terrano has developed a whirring, ticking noise that has got a bit worse in recent weeks. Seems related to the clutch as it only happens when clutch is engaged. Noise goes as soon as enough pressure is put on clutch pedal to disengage clutch. Can hear it clearly when moving off and it gets faster as pick up speed. Can't tell if noise is there on the open road.
Noise is coming from underneath the centre of the vehicle but can't find anything loose. No leaks. Oil levels all checked and good. The terrano does have a noisy release bearing already that you can hear when idling in neutral. But no problem with gear changes or slipping. Terrano is 02 model (reg 03) and looks like clutch and gearbox has been done before.
Would the clutch make this kind of whirring, ticking noise and if so do I need to do anything about it?
